Ellen White on Cricket and Football

Who invented sports and games?

Satan has devised a multitude of ways in which to keep men from serving God. He has invented sports and games. R&H SEP 10, 1901

Why Ellen White did not want students to see cricket?

And while men were playing the game of cricket, and others were watching the game, Satan was playing the game of life for their souls. Therefore we decided to locate our school where the students would not see cricket matches or horse races. We are just where God wants us to be, and many conversions have taken place in this school. AUCR July 26, 1899, Art. A, par. 19

What happens when we watch cricket or football?

On one occasion a view of these things was presented before me. The students were playing games of tennis and cricket matches. Then I saw an expression of the character of those amusements. It was presented to me as a species of idolatry, like the idols of the nations. The were more than visible spectators on the ground; Satan and his angels were at work on human minds, making his impressions. Ms 32, 1900

What makes Satan delighted?

The public feeling is that manual labor is degrading, yet men may exert themselves as much as they choose at cricket, baseball, or in pugilistic contests, without being regarded as degraded. Satan is delighted when he sees human beings using their physical and mental powers in that which does not educate, which is not useful, which does not help them to be a blessing to those who need their help. While the youth are becoming expert in games that are of no real value to themselves or to others, Satan is playing the game of life for their souls, taking from them the talents that God has given them, and placing in their stead his own evil attributes. It is his effort to lead men to ignore God. CT 274

To what satan uses his power to gain his object?

How much time is spent by intelligent human beings in horse racing, cricket matches, and ball playing! But will indulgence in these sports give men a desire to know truth and righteousness? Will it keep God in their thoughts? Will it lead them to inquire, How is it with my soul? All the powers of Satan are set in operation to hold the attention to frivolous amusements, and he is gaining his object. He is interposing his devisings between God and the soul. Ms96-1899.17

What is the characteristics of these games?

Some of the most popular amusements, such as football and boxing, have become schools of brutality. They are developing the same characteristics as did the games of ancient Rome. The love of domination, the pride in mere brute force, the reckless disregard of life, are exerting upon the youth a power to demoralize that is appalling. AH 500.

What is the example of Christ?

I cannot find an instance in the life of Christ where he devoted time to play and amusement. He was the great Educator for the present and the future life. I have not been able to find one instance where he educated his disciples to engage in amusement of football or pugilistic games, to obtain physical exercise, or in theatrical performances; and yet Christ was our pattern in all things. SpTed 191

Other quotes on this subject:

What force of powers is put into your games of football and your other inventions after the way of the Gentiles – exercises which bless no one! Just put the same powers into exercise in doing useful labor, and would not your record be more pleasing to meet in the great day of God? FE 229

At the horse races and football matches, which are attended by thousands and thousands of people, lives for which Christ shed his blood are thrown away. What will become of the souls of the men and boys whose lives are thus extinguished? Will they be counted worthy of the redemption which Christ died to secure for them? RH June 13, 1907

I had sent to Battle Creek to Professor Prescott, and to all our schools, in regard to the amusement question in match games and football. The light was given me that these things were not having an influence to help the students in the perfection of Christian character or in scholastic perfection. The dean of the English church came in to have teeth filled, and we had to suspend operations. Ms87-1893.

Why some Christians don’t bear fruit?

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. Mat 13:22

And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. Mark 4.19
And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.  Luke 8.14
Four reasons
1. Care of this world

2. Deceitfulness of riches

3. Lust for worldly possessions

4. Pleasures of this life
We were never taught in our pulpits that riches deceive.
The first reason ‘care of this world’ reminds me this verse
Luke 21:34. And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
Cares of this life will take eternal life away from us.
Martha was worried and focussed on preparing food for Jesus. Mary sat at Jesus feet eagerly listening to His words of eternal life. To Martha Jesus said.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10. 41, 42
There is only one thing we ever need to care for: to be at the feet of Jesus listening to Him.

Which caste does Christ belong to?

Throughout history almost in every culture except Israelites and even in modern times people tend to divide man on the nature of the job they do.

People have developed a mindset that those who do manual work are inferior.
Manual work is looked down.
For example in medieval Europe, man was divided into noble class, merchant class and labour class.
Some cultures gave religious color to casteism. They convinced people to believe that God created people to belong to certain caste.
Mosaic Judaism and Christianity taught a principle different from all these cultures.
In Bible God gave the job of tending plants in the garden of Eden. Post expulsion from the garden man’s primary job was to take care of the land. Man was not a hunter and gatherer of food as evolutionist believe. Man grew food and entire humanity were basically farmers and manual workers.
All men lived a self sustaining life. They grew their own food, they built their own house and made their own furniture.
Their primary education was to know God.
As some men of means got others to work for them, they developed a view that those who have people work under them is superior to the ones work for them. This mindset made men of means to do less manual work and depend on others to do manual work.
In the economy of ancient Israel all men were given an equal portion of land. All Israelites were farmers and manual workers. In the culture of Israel all men were required to learn manual work. In the school of prophets manual work was part of their education. There was no caste system in Israel.
Christ lived in a time when humanity looked down upon the labour class. But God the Father sent His son to be a carpenter. He knew manual work is important for His son to prepare for His ministry. Son of God came to serve not to be served.
To answer the title which caste does Christ belong to. In God’s eyes there is no caste.
All men are of one blood
And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth Acts 17.26
God hates caste
Caste is hateful to God. He ignores everything of this character. DoA p403
Christ came to destroy caste
No distinction on account of nationality, race, or caste, is recognized by God. He is the Maker of all mankind. All men are of one family by creation, and all are one through redemption. Christ came to demolish every wall of partition, to throw open every compartment of the temple, that every soul may have free access to God. Col p386
Christ do not tolerate caste
They should be taught that the gospel of Christ tolerates no spirit of caste CE 201
Christ ignores caste
The Saviour ignores both rank and caste, worldly honor and riches. It is character and devotedness of purpose that are of high value with Him. Cch 283
In the religion of Christ there is no caste
The life of Christ established a religion in which there is no caste, a religion by which Jew and Gentile, free and bond, are linked in a common brotherhood, equal before God. Cch 289

Can a saved man choose to be lost

After entering into a relationship the believer needs to remain faithful until the end to enter into eternal life.

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Mat 24.13

“For we are made partakers of Christ, If we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end.” Hebrews 3:14 .

If a saved man choose to be  unfaithful his name will be blotted out from book of life

Revelation 3:5 , “He that overcometh . . . I will not blot out his name out of the book of life.”

“If any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.” Hebrews 10:38
 .
“If we sin willfully . . . there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins.” Hebrews 10:26

What can we do to remain in this saving relationship

“If ye do these things, ye shall never fall.” 2 Peter 1:10

“If thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.” Romans 11:22

Can Christian Ladies wear Jewelry and makeup?

If I ask anyone who wears Jewels and makeup on why they are wearing it. An honest answer would be to look beautiful.

Every body wants to look beautiful and there is nothing wrong in this desire. It is God given desire and longing. Every one should seek to look beautiful. But Satan perverted this desire.

God gave appetite to enjoy the food He created for mankind but satan perverted it to make man eat for appetite instead for strength.

Ecc 10:17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

Bible tells us that we should eat in due season – No eating in between meals. And eat for strength and not for drunkenness. Food should be eaten for nutrition and not for satisfying appetite. No junk food but instead healthy balanced food.

Men want to be handsome and Women want to look beautiful. The real purpose for God to create this desire in humans is that man has to desire after the ‘Beauty of holiness’.

Psa 96:9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth. Also read 1Ch 16:29 & 2Ch 20:21 & Psa 29:2.

When men possess a powerful and holy character which resembles God then they will draw others unto God. The world thinks of beauty as something which attracts others to themselves but God’s purpose of beauty is to attract others to God through them.

Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.

Pro 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
Pro 31:13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
Pro 31:20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
Pro 31:25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
Pro 31:26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
Pro 31:27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Pro 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Pro 31:30 Favour ( supplied by me charm) is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

A quote I found in internet

“For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.”
Why Jewels were used in Biblical times

1. They used it as money

2.They wore their pagan Gods as Ornaments.

Remember Jacob asks his family to put away the earrings and strange Gods in their hand. Gen 35:2,4

3. Adornment – beautify
A common objection I get is Patriachs used Jewels.

Just because Patriachs did something that doesn’t becomes right. Abraham had many concubines; Noah drank wine and became drunk (Genesis 9:20, 21). Lot had sex with his daughters and got them pregnant (Genesis 19:30-38). Judah hired a prostitute for a night, impregnated her, and later discovered she was his daughter-in-law (Genesis 38:12-26).

Another objection I normally get is God gave Jewels to Israelites.

God gave Jewels

1. As money (as in the case of Israelites when they left Egypt)

2. because they are used to the lifestyle of wearing Jewels. God allows certain things but it may not be according to His perfect will. For example God allowed/gave many wives; allowed/gave bill of divorce; Christ allowed/gave Flesh diet.

True church vs false church

In Revelation we see two woman, a false church represented by a woman adorned with gold and true church represented by woman who was adorned with character of Christ.

Rev 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
Rev 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Rev 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

Clothed with sun represents clothed with the righteousness of Christ who is the sun of our righteousness.

Apostles command us not to wear Jewels

Paul wrote, “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.” 1 Timothy 2:9, 10.

Peter wrote in much the same manner, except that he especially addressed Christian women who had unbelieving husbands. “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” 1 Peter 3:1-4.

From heavens prespective Gold and Diamonds are just blocks of stones upon which we walk.

Wedding Sign

History gives us a very clear picture of the relationship between early church apostasy and the introduction of the wedding ring. The famous Catholic Cardinal, John Henry Newman, described it in 1845 in his monumental book Development of Christian Doctrine, p. 373: “Constantine, in order to recommend the new religion to the heathen, transferred into it the outward adornments to which they had been accustomed in their own. It is not necessary to go into a subject which the diligence of Protestant writers has made familiar to most of us. The use of temples, and these dedicated to particular saints … incense … candles … holy water … processions … the ring in marriage, turning to the east, images at a later date … are all of pagan origin, and sanctified by their adoption into the Church.”

Please note this friends, both outward adornment and wedding sign was not used in early church until the period of Constantine.

In the book Testimonies to Ministers, page 161, Ellen White makes the following statement on the practice of wearing a wedding ring (it was written to American missionaries in Australia who were beginning to wear the wedding ring with the excuse that it would increase their influence with the Australians):

”I feel deeply over this leavening process which seems to be going on among us, in the conformity to custom and fashion. not one penny should be spent for the circle of gold to testify that we are married. In countries where the custom is imperative, we have no burden to condemn those who have their marriage ring; let them wear it if they can do so conscientiously: but let not our missionaries feel that the wearing of the ring will increase their influence one jot or tittle.”

Ellen White asserts that Jewellery is not a Christian thing

Self-denial in dress is a part of our Christian duty. To dress plainly and abstain from display of jewelry and ornaments of every kind is in keeping with our faith. Child Guidance 423

Amazing truth about Michael the Arch Angel

Introduction

Michael is one of the angels whose name is given in the Bible. Lucifer and Gabriel are other the two angels whose name is given.

Michael is called the prince of Daniel. Daniel 10:21. There are many interpretations given by theologians to understand why Michael is called the Prince of God’s people.

“At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people–everyone whose name is found written in the book–will be delivered. Daniel 12:1 NIV (Emphasis by me)

Why Michael is referred as the one who protects God’s people.

Jacob also talks about an Angel who redeemed him from all troubles.

The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. Genesis 48:16 KJV (emphasis by me). Note that ‘A’ in Angel is in uppercase.

Jacob is praying that ‘this Angel’ should bless the lads.

This Angel could be none other than Michael the great prince who protects God’s people (Dan 12:1)

An angel who was worshipped

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant? And the captain of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua,Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so. Joshua 5:13-15

This angel accepts worship unlike other angels who warned humans not to worship them. Rev 22:8,9

Who is this angel who accepts worship

An Angel who was referred as God.

And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I. And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee. I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred. (Gen. 31:11-13) Emphasis supplied.

And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. (Gen. 32:27-30)

Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us. (Hos. 12:4)

Jacob said he wrestled with God, but Hosea said he wrestled with the “Angel.” They must be one and the same.

Who is this angel whom Bible refers as God.

An Angel who address Himself as Jehovah

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. (Ex. 3:2-4)

And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you. And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. (Jdg. 2:1-3)

Again we have an “Angel” speaking as if He is God, this time to quite a few people all at once.

And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. . . . This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. . . . This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us. (Acts 7:30, 35, 38)

Moses spoke with an Angel in mount Sinai. Is not it with God Moses spoke in Mount Sinai.

And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. . . . And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. (Gen. 22:11, 12, 15-18)

Is it God speaking here or an Angel?

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? (Gen. 16:9-13)

And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is. Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation. (Gen. 21:17, 18)

And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, And said, My LORD, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: Gen 18:1-3

Twice we have the “Angel” of the LORD speaking to Hagar as if He Himself is the Lord.

Of the 3 men who visited Abraham one is Lord.

And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; 8Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. Gen 18:16-22

Who is this Angel who is called Jehovah and addresses as God.

Bible Calls both Jesus and John the Baptist as angels

Behold, I will send my messenger [mal’ak, the Hebrew word for “angel”], and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger [again, the Hebrew word is mal’ak] of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. (Mal. 3:1-3)

For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. (Mat. 11:10, 11)

As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. (Mark 1:2)

He began to speak unto the people concerning John. . . . This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. (Luke 7:24, 27)

Jesus Christ is the Chief Messenger (Arch Angel) of the Triune Godhead or Trinity.

The Hebrew word malak (found 103 times in the OT) simply means “messenger”,” and hence employed to denote any agent God sends forth to execute his purposes. It is used of an ordinary messenger (Job 1:14: 1 Sam. 11:3; Luk 7:24; 9:52), of prophets (Isa 42:19; Hag 1:13), of priests (Mal 2:7), and ministers of the New Testament (Rev 1:20).

Is Jesus and Michael are the same person

Paul says that Jesus will come with the voice of the Arch Angel “The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (1 Thessalonians 4:16).”

Moreover the meaning of the Michael is “One who is like God”. Bible tells us that Jesus is the one who is like God.

Hebrews 1: . . .”3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being

phi 2:6Who, being in the form of God,

Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Conclusion

Michael is not a created being; but just another name of Christ, the second person of Godhead a.k.a Trinity. PreIncarnate Jesus assumed the role of the chief messenger (Arch Angel) of the God head.

Objections:

=======

1. Michael is just one of the chief princes. If it is Lord then He cant be just one of the chief princes.

But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Dan 10:13

Youngs Literal Translation translated Dan 10:13 like this

“‘And the head of the kingdom of Persia is standing over-against me twenty and one days, and lo,Michael, first of the chief heads, hath come in to help me, and I have remained there near the kings of Persia”

Michael is not just one of the chief princes but first of the chief princes.

2. By saying that Michael and Jesus are the same person you are saying that Jesus is a created being

Jesus Christ is not a created being but the creator of all things.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3

Jesus Christ incarnated Himself to be a man that does not make Him as a human. He is the creator God who made Himself as the Chief Messenger of God Head a.k.a Trinity

Are there people alive since 1st century?

Seeing the Kingdom
Luke 9:27 says that some were standing there will not see death till the Kingdom come. Are there still people alive since He said that?? wow
Answer:
In Matthew 16: 28 Jesus says Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. Immediately after this Matthew records the incident of transfiguration.

Apostle Peter writes in 2 Peter 1:16-18  For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.  For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.  And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

Peter says that he saw the second coming on the Mount of Transfiguration.  The only way that the Transfiguration could have been like the second coming is if Elijah represented the translated saints while Moses represented the resurrected saints.

The Greek word ‘see’ should be translated as perceived.

So Apostles perceived second coming in the mount of transfiguration. There is no disciples alive today.

True Church: How do we know it?

Bible says commandment keeping people constitutes the true church of God. Jesus when talking about His church says My sheep knows me and I know my sheep.

Joh 10:14  I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine

Joh 10:27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

1Jn 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

1Jn 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1 John 2:3,4 says only christians who keep commandments of God knows Him rest of them don’t know Him.

The term ‘knowing’ in Bible refers to the relationship between husband and wife for example ‘Cain knew his wife and she conceived’ ‘Adam knew his wife’. Commandment keeping people know God as per 1 John 2:3,4 and thereby they constitute the Bride of God.

Also John 17:3 says eternal life is to know God. Bible says only commandment keeping people enter heaven Rev 22:14 and Rev 14:12.

False Church: In Mat 7:21-23 NKJV where a group of miracle healers says we did miracles and cast out demons in the name of Jesus and to them Jesus replies I never knew you because you didnt keep commandments. Remember Jesus knows only His bridal church.

A brief note on overcoming sin

Sin is the transgression of Law 1 John 3:4

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I(man) am carnal, sold under sin. Rom 7: 14

Carnal mind is not subject to the Law of God; Rom 8:7

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Rom 8:6

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Jesus not only forgives (justification) our sins but also cleanse us (sanctification) from all unrighteousness

Some Powerful promises to remember

==================================

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,  Jud 24

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:9

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 2 Pet 2:10

Christ promises a crown to everyone who overcomes sin.

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne Rev 3:21

Thoughts on sports from Bible and Spirit of Prophecy.

“Satan has devised a multitude of ways in which to keep men from serving God. He has invented sports and games, into which men enter with such intensity that one would suppose a crown of life was to reward the winner.” Review and Herald, September 10, 1901.

While playing any game or sport, whether we admit or not, we have only 2 goals, That we or I should win and other one should lose? Secondly in many games the win comes always with a trick, be it a cricket ball bowlled with a spin tricking the batsman or a soccer player tricking the opponent by hitting it in unexpected direction. In mind games like Chess we plan and even trick to make the opponent lose? Doesn’t Satan plan to make others lose? Doesn’t Christ always plans to make everybody a winner? Even with the expense of bringing a loss to Himself? Whose spirit is ruling the motives we have when we play sports, Christs or Satans? –

Christianity is about turning the other cheek, esteeming others higher than ourselves and preferring honor for others rather than for ourselves. The Sports world is all about demonstrating superiorty, paybacks, and gaining honor for oneself or his team. Sports involve wasting lot of time and money which could be spent otherwise usefully.

Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Phi 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

1Pe 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

1Co 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they (athletes) do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we (Christians) an incorruptible.

“I cannot find an instance in the life of Christ where He devoted time to play and amusement. He was the great Educator for the present and the future life. I have not been able to find one instance where He educated His disciples to engage in amusement of football or pugilistic games, to obtain physical exercise, or in theatrical performances; and yet Christ was our Pattern in all things.” Fundamentals of Christian Education, 229.

“The public feeling is that manual labor is degrading, yet men may exert themselves as much as they choose at cricket, baseball, or in pugilistic contests without being regarded as degraded. He seeks to engross and absorb the mind so completely that God will find no place in the thoughts. He does not wish people to have a knowledge of their Maker, and he is well pleased if he can set in operation games and theatrical perfonnances that will so confuse the senses of the youth that God and heaven will be forgotten.” Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students, 274-275.

The Spirit of Prophecy identifies sports as a form of idolatry. “I was told by my Guide: ‘Look ye, and behold the idolatry of My people, to whom I have been speaking, rising up early, and presenting to them their dangers. I looked that they should bring forth fruit.’ There were some who were striving for the mastery, each trying to excel the other in the swift running of their bicycles. There was a spirit of strife and contention among them as to which should be the greatest. The spirit was similar to that manifested in the baseball games on the college ground. Said my Guide: ‘These things are an offense to God. Both near and afar off, souls are perishing for the bread of life and the water of salvation.’ .. Testimonies, vol. 8, 52.

“A view of things was presented before me in which the students were playing games of tennis and cricket. Then I was given instruction regarding the character of these amusements. They were presented to me as a species of idolatry, like the idols of the nations.” Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students, 350.

“‘The value of time is beyond computation. Christ regarded every moment as precious, and it is thus that we should regard it. Life is too short to be trifled away. We have but a few days of probation in which to prepare for eternity. We have no time to waste, no time to devote to selfish pleasure, no time for the indulgence of sin. It is now that we are to form characters for the future, immortal life. It is now that we are to prepare for the searching judgment.·· Christ’S Object Lessons, 342.

In summary

“I do not condemn the simple exercise of playing ball; but this, even in its simplicity, may be overdone. “I shrink always from the almost sure result wlllch follows in the wake of these amusements. It leads to an outlay of means that should be expended in bringing the light of tntth to souls that are perishing out of Christ. The amusements and expenditures of means for self-pleasing, which lead on step by step to self-glorifying, and the educating in these games for pleasure produce a love and passion for such things that is not favorable to the perfection of Christian character. … “Is the eye single to the glory of God in these games? I know that this is not so. There is a losing sight of God’s way and His purpose. The employment of intelligent beings, in probationary time, is superseding God’s revealed will and ubstituting for it the speculations and inventions of the human agent, with Satan by his side to imbue with his spirit. . . . The Lord God of heaven protests against the burning passion cultivated for supremacy in the games that are so engrossing.” The Adventist Home, 499-500.

Songs in the Night

“When trials arise that seem unexplainable, we should not allow our peace to be spoiled. However unjustly we may be treated, let not passion arise. By indulging a spirit of retaliation we injure ourselves. We destroy our own confidence in God, and grieve the Holy Spirit. There is by our side a Witness, a heavenly Messenger, who will lift up for us a standard against the enemy. He will shut us in with the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness. Beyond this Satan cannot penetrate. He cannot pass this shield of holy light.

“Keep your wants, your joys, your sorrows, your cares, and your fears before God. You cannot burden Him; you cannot weary Him. His heart of love is touched by our sorrows and even by our utterances of them. Take to Him everything that perplexes the mind. Nothing is too great for Him to bear, for He holds up worlds. He rules over all the affairs of the universe. Nothing that in any way concerns our peace is too small for Him to notice. There is no chapter in our experience too dark for Him to read; there is no perplexity too difficult for Him to unravel. No calamity can befall the least of His children, no anxiety harass the soul, no sincere prayer escape the lips, of which our heavenly Father is unobservant, or in which He takes no immediate interest. The relations between God and each soul are as distinct and full as though there were not another soul upon the earth to share His watch care, not another soul for whom He gave His beloved Son.” — Steps to Christ, page 100.

“In the full light of day, and in the hearing of the music of other voices, the caged bird will not sing the song that his master seeks to teach him. He learns a snatch of this, a trill of that, but never a separate and entire melody. But the master covers the cage, and places it where the bird will listen to the one song he is to sing. In the dark, he tries and tries again to sing that song until it is learned, and he breaks forth in perfect melody. Then the bird is brought forth, and ever after he can sing that song in the light. Thus God deals with His children. He has a song to teach us, and when we have learned it amid the shadows of affliction we can sing is ever afterward.” –Ministry of Healing, page 251.

Job 35:10 says: “But none saith, Where is God, my maker, who giveth songs in the night?”

Guard Well the Avenues of the Soul

He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, ….And shuts his eyes from seeing evil: ; Isaiah 33:15

I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; Psalm 101:3

The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.  Luke 11:34-36

It is by guarding the avenues of soul we protect ourselves from sinning. Friends TV is an entertainment by means of sin. If it doesn’t contain violence in the name of heroism or have sexual overtones in the name of love or mockery in name of comedy or promote sin in some form then it is not interesting. If you want to wear the image of Christ then you have to stop feeding your soul with TV.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence,” is the counsel of the wise man; “for out of it are the issues of life.” As man “thinketh in his heart, so is he.” The heart must be renewed by divine grace, or it will be in vain to seek for purity of life. He who attempts to build up a noble, virtuous character independent of the grace of Christ, is building his house upon the shifting sand. In the fierce storms of temptation it will surely be overthrown. David’s prayer should be the petition of every soul: “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” And having become partakers of the heavenly gift, we are to go on unto perfection, being “kept by the power of God, through faith.”

Yet we have a work to do to resist temptation. Those who would not fall a prey to Satan’s devices must guard well the avenues of the soul; they must avoid reading, seeing, or hearing that which will suggest impure thoughts. The mind should not be left to wander at random upon every subject that the adversary of souls may suggest. “Gird up the loins of your mind,” says the apostle Peter, “be sober, . . . not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: but as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of living.”

Says Paul, “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” This will require earnest prayer and unceasing watchfulness. We must be aided by the abiding influence of the Holy Spirit, which will attract the mind upward, and habituate it to dwell on pure and holy things. And we must give diligent study to the word of God. “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to Thy word.” “Thy word,” says the Psalmist, “have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.”– Patriarchs and Prophets,” p. 460 .

The Chaff and the Wheat

Dear youth, cease to read the magazines containing stories. Put away every novel. . . . We would do well to clear our houses of all the story magazines and the publications containing ridiculous pictures –representations originated by satanic agencies. The youth cannot afford to poison their minds with such things. “What is the chaff to the wheat?” Let every one who claims to be a follower of Christ read only that which is true and of eternal value. We must prepare ourselves for most solemn duties. A world is to be saved. . . . In view of the great work to be done, how can any one afford to waste precious time and God-given means in doing those things that are not for his best good or for the glory of God?– The Youth’s Instructor, August 14, 1906 .

The power and danger of Thoughts

You are professedly the servants of Christ. Do you then yield to Him ready and willing obedience?Do you earnestly inquire how you shall best please Him who has called you to be soldiers of the cross of Christ?Do you both lift the cross and glory in it? Answer these questions to God. All your acts, however secret you may think they have been, are open to your heavenly Father. Nothing is hidden, nothing covered. All your acts and the motives which prompt them are open to His sight. He has full knowledge of all your words and thoughts.

It is your duty to control your thoughts. You will have to war against a vain imagination. You may think that there can be no sin in permitting your thoughts to run as they naturally would without restraint. But this is not so. You are responsible to God for the indulgence of vain thoughts; for from vain imaginations arises the committal of sins, the actual doing of those things upon which the mind has dwelt. Govern your thoughts, and it will then be much easier to govern your actions.Your thoughts need to be sanctified.

Paul writes to the Corinthians: “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

When you come into this position, the work of consecration will be better understood….Your thoughts will be pure, chaste, and elevated; your actions pure and sinless. Your bodies will be preserved in sanctification and honor, that you may present them “a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” You are required to deny self in little as well as in greater things. You should make an entire surrender to God…

God alone can renew the heart

Far more than we do, we need to understand the issues at stake in the conflict in which we are engaged. We need to understand more fully the value of the truths that God has given for this time and the danger of allowing our minds to be diverted from them by the great deceiver.

The infinite value of the sacrifice required for our redemption reveals the fact that sin is a tremendous evil. Through sin the whole human organism is deranged, the mind is perverted, the imagination corrupted. Sin has degraded the faculties of the soul. Temptations from without find an answering chord within the heart, and the feet turn imperceptibly toward evil.

As the sacrifice in our behalf was complete, so our restoration from the defilement of sin is to be complete. There is no act of wickedness that the law will excuse; there is no unrighteousness that will escape its condemnation. The life of Christ was a perfect fulfillment of every precept of the law. He said; “I have kept My Father’s commandments.” John 15:10. His life is our standard of obedience and service.

God alone can renew the heart. “It is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for His good pleasure.” But we are bidden: “Work out your own salvation.” Philippians 2:13, 12, A. R. V.

The Work That Requires Our Thought

Wrongs cannot be righted, nor can reformations in character be made, by a few feeble, intermittent efforts. Sanctification is the work, not of a day, or of a year, but of a   lifetime. The struggle for conquest over self, for holiness and heaven, is a lifelong struggle. Without continual effort and constant activity there can be no advancement in the divine life, no attainment of the victor’s crown.

The strongest evidence of man’s fall from a higher state is the fact that it costs so much to return. The way of return can be gained only by hard fighting, inch by inch, every hour. By a momentary act of will, one may place himself in the power of evil; but it requires more than a momentary act of will to break these fetters and attain to a higher, holier life. The purpose may be formed, the work begun; but its accomplishment will require toil, time, and perseverance, patience and sacrifice.

Beset with temptations without number, we must resist firmly or be conquered. Should we come to the close of life with our work undone, it would be an eternal loss.

Paul’s sanctification was the result of a constant conflict with self. He said: “I die daily.” 1 Corinthians 15:31. His will and his desires every day conflicted with duty and the will of God. Instead of following inclination, he did God’s will, however crucifying to his own nature.

God leads His people on step by step. The Christian life is a battle and a march. In this warfare there is no release; the effort must be continuous and persevering. It is by unceasing endeavor that we maintain the victory over the temptations of Satan. Christian integrity must be sought with resistless energy and maintained with a resolute fixedness of purpose.

No one will be borne upward without stern, persevering effort in his own behalf. All must engage in this warfare for themselves. Individually we are responsible for the issue of the struggle; though Noah, Job, and Daniel were in the land, they could deliver neither son nor daughter by their righteousness.

Is adventist church correct in its stand on Jewellery?

When Old testament people used Jewellery then why church is teaching against it.

Jewellery was used in old testament time for two reasons

1. They used it as money

God made all of the gold, silver, and precious jewels in the world, and He intended for them to have a practical use. Since even small amounts of these minerals are so rare and valuable, long ago they began to be used as money. Over time, people began wearing their money in order to impress others with their wealth. When shoppers went to the market to buy an expensive item, they would simply pull off one of their rings or bracelets to pay. After Rebecca had watered the camels for Abraham’s servant, the Bible says that he paid her in this way. “And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold.” Genesis 24:22.When the children of Israel brought an offering to the Lord to build the tabernacle, they used the jewels they had received from the Egyptians. It was their money. “And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto the Lord.” Exodus 35:22. (from the article how much jewellery is too much. see below for the link)

2. They wore their pagan Gods as Ornaments.

Remember Jacob asks his family to put away the earrings and strange Gods in their hand. Gen 35:2,4

Women in nature have desire to be beautiful. They desire to wear to Jewels so they appear beautiful. But Bible repeatedly says the true beauty is in the inward Character and not the outward appearance.

John, in the book of Revelation, describes the scarlet woman of sin (symbolising the false church) as “decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.” Revelation 17:4. In contrast, the true church is depicted in Revelation 12:1 as a beautiful woman clothed with the glory of the sun. This woman is called the bride of Christ in Revelation 21:9..

Through Ezekiel, God symbolised His apostatised people, Judah and Israel, by two harlots named Aholah and Aholibah. His description of their bold ornamentation matched the lewdness of their conduct. “And furthermore, that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom a messenger was sent; and, lo, they came: for whom thou didst wash thyself, paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst thyself with ornaments.” Ezekiel 23:40.

Hosea expresses the same thought when he describes the hypocrisy of Israel. Again, the unfaithfulness was well dramatised by a decorated woman. “And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord.” Hosea 2:13.

What about wedding ring?

In the book Testimonies to Ministers, page 161, Ellen White makes the following statement on the practice of wearing a wedding ring (it was written to American missionaries in Australiawho were beginning to wear the wedding ring with the excuse that it would increase their influence with the Australians):

“I feel deeply over this leavening process which seems to be going on among us, in the conformity to custom and fashion. not one penny should be spent for the circle of gold to testify that we are married. In countries where the custom is imperative, we have no burden to condemn those who have their marriage ring; let them wear it if they can do so conscientiously: but let not our missionaries feel that the wearing of the ring will increase their influence one jot or tittle.”

Wearing a wedding ring is called a “leavening process” that the prophet “felt deeply over.”

When we make decisons on wearing Jewels let us not rely on what we think or how we feel. Let all the decisions have a solid foundation of what would Jesus do or What is the principle underlying this or Thus saith the Lord. There is much safety in that.
