Genesis 1-2-3 and Seventh Day Adventism

The first three chapters are sufficient to teach most Bible doctrines.

1. Marriage – is between one man and one woman

Gen 2:24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

2. Hell – If you break commandment of God you will die (note God didnt say that the day you eat the fruit you will be put into hell and burn forever)

Gen 2:17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

3. State of dead – when God breathed air into mans nostrils He became a living soul (living being). Note God didnt insert a soul into a body but breathed air.

Gen 2:7  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

“Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breaththey die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit[breath], they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.” (Psalm 104:29-30).

4. Sabbath – God rested on the seventhday and He blessed that day and made it holy.

Gen 2:2-3  And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified itbecause that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

5. Commandments – God commanded man not to eat the fruit. If you obey Gods commandment you live otherwise you die.

Gen 2:17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

6. Vegetarian diet- God gave plants as food for man.

Gen 1:29  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to youit shall be for meat.

Isa 65:25  The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

7. Country living – God placed man in a beautiful garden.

https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/category/ellen-white/country-living/

Gen 2:8  And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the manwhom he had formed.

8. Sanctuary – God taught that Christ will die for  mans sin by killing the lamb after man’s sin

Gen 3:21  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

9. Righteousnes by Faith-  Man tried to clothe himself with fig leaves but God clothed man with an animals skin i.e., He taught that man cannot the nakedness of his sin by his own works but only with the righteousness of Jesus.

Gen 3:7  And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.  Gen 3:21  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

10. Sunday Law

God told Man that there will be enmity between the church and the serpent and serprent will try to destroy the seed of the woman (church)

Gen 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Rev 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

11. Trinity

Gen 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Gen 3:22  And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

What Bible says about Ellen White?

Many think that the Bible is silent about Ellen White. But I see at-least 3 verses talking about Ellen White.

1. Ellen White announcing the entry of Christ into the most holy place in heavenly sanctuary and the judgement?

Behold, I will send my messenger (Ellen White), and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple(Most holy place where the judgement starts), even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. Mal 3: 1-3

2. The prophetic role of Ellen White at the end time in which her work turns people to God?

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. Mal 4:5, 6

3. Identification of the God’s church in the last days. Keeping of commandments of God and a prophet.

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Rev 12:17

(the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Rev 19:10; Rev 22:19)

Why Ellen White cannot be a false prophet?

Today there is so much unsuccessful effort put to prove Ellen White as a false prophet. They misquote her, take her quote out of context, insert phrases which she never wrote and put all kinds of false charges.

In spite of all these efforts the Testimonies given through the end time prophet remains vindicated.

Ellen White with the 8 KG Bible.

Early in 1845, while in vision at her parents’ home in Portland, Maine, 17-year-old Ellen Harmon (later White) picked up their large family Bible and held it on her outstretched left arm for 20 to 30 minutes. The story was documented by J. N. Loughborough who interviewed those who witnessed the vision, including Ellen’s father, mother, and sister. The Bible (on display at the Ellen G. White Estate) weighs 18½ pounds (8 kilos) and was printed by Joseph Teal in 1822. W. C. White, Ellen White’s son, also reported hearing of the incident from his parents. There are other reports of Ellen White holding large Bibles while in vision, including an eye-witness account printed in Spiritual Gifts, vol. 2, pp. 77-79.

Such experiences should not be considered proof of divine inspiration, as prophets must meet the tests set forth in the Scriptures; but this experience, as well as other remarkable physical phenomena, were seen as evidence by many early Adventists that Ellen Harmon’s visions were of supernatural origin. http://www.flickr.com/photos/interamerica/5425628622/

This note is not to disprove all the charges but the focus is on why Ellen White cannot be a false prophet.

Rev 12 gives us the time line of the Christian church since the birth of Jesus Christ (v2) through the Dark Ages (v6) to the pilgrims moving to the new uninhabited land America  (v16)

Rev 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Verse 17 tells us that the end time commandment keeping  church which comes after 1798 will have the testimony of Jesus.

Rev 19:10 tells us that  ” the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Compare this with Rev 1:2, Rev 22:9.

The end time church will have the spirit of prophecy or prophet compare (Rev 19:10 with Rev 22:9, here Spirit of Prophecy and Prophets are used interchangeably)If Ellen White is not the prophet of the end time commandment keeping church then who else.

In Last days – We should refrain from eating meat – Where is it in Bible?

I was hearing a sermon though the preacher didn’t say this he was giving a hint which made me understand the subject line i.e., Where is it in Bible it says we should refrain from eating meat in the last days.

In Lev 16:31 God said unto the people that the Day of atonement shall be a sabbath of rest unto them, and they should afflict your souls.

Again in Lev 23 it says 27Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. 28And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. 29For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. 30And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. Note here whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

This is an interesting point.

  • We should afflict our souls during the day of atonement. We are living in the literal day of atonement.
  • Whichever soul is not afflicted will be cut off from among his people.

On the day of atonement Israelites afflicted by fasting. See how Daniel afflicted himself when praying for his people In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. Dan 10:2,3

Should we who live in the literal day of atonement afflict our souls for ourselves and our people.

And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. Exe 9:4

Now let us see few Ellen White quotes and let us return to Bible again.

Now and onward till the close of time the people of God should be more earnest, more wide-awake, not trusting in their own wisdom, but in the wisdom of their Leader. They should set aside days for fasting and prayer. Entire abstinence from food may not be required, but they should eat sparingly of the most simple food.–CD 188, 189 (1904).

God is trying to lead us back, step by step, to His original design–that man should subsist upon the natural products of the earth. Among those who are waiting for the coming of the Lord meat eating will eventually be done away; flesh will cease to form a part of their diet. We should ever keep this end in view and endeavor to work steadily toward it.–CH 450 (1890).

Will whosoever doesn’t afflict himself during this literal day of atonement will be cut off from the people like Lev 23:29

Many who are now only half converted on the question of meat eating will go from God’s people, to walk no more with them.–RH May 27, 1902.

What Bible calls when we eat flesh instead of afflicting?

And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die. And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts. Isa 22:12-14

An iniquity!!

This is just a study. Please share with me your opinions after considering this carefully with prayer.

Is going back to original diet – Vegetarian diet Biblical? – 2

Excerpt from the part 1.

Spirit of Prophecy never says anything which is not in harmony with scriptures.  Is Going back to original diet Biblical? Through out the Bible we can see the principles of going back to the blue print.

Divorce is not in God’s original plan.
Polygamy is not in God’s original plan.
Meat Eating is allowed because of man’s lust. But God calls back to original diet.

SOP Quotes on this.

Greater reforms should be seen among the people who claim to be looking for the soon appearing of Christ. Health reform is to do among our people a work which it has not yet done. There are those who ought to be awake to the danger of meat eating who are still eating the flesh of animals, thus endangering the physical, mental, and spiritual health. Many who are now only half converted on the question of meat eating will go from God’s people, to walk no more with them.–RH May 27, 1902.

The true fasting which should be recommended to all is abstinence from every stimulating kind of food, and the proper use of wholesome, simple food, which God has provided in abundance. Men need to think less of what they shall eat and drink of temporal food, and much more in regard to the food from heaven, that will give tone and vitality to the whole religious experience.–MM 283 (1896).

Ellen White and her role in last days

“All who believe the Lord has spoken through Sister White, and has given her a message, will be safe from the many delusions that will come in these last days.” (3 SM 84)

In ancient times God spoke to men by the mouth of prophets and apostles. In these days He speaks to them by the testimonies of His Spirit. There was never a time when God instructed His people more earnestly than He instructs them now concerning His will and the course that He would have them pursue.” (5T 661)

“Sister White is not the originator of these books. They contain the instruction that during her lifework God has been giving her. They contain the precious, comforting light, that God has graciously given His servant to be given to the world.” (CM 125)

“The written testimonies are not to give new light, but to impress vividly upon the heart the truths of inspiration already revealed. Man’s duty to God and to his fellow man has been distinctly specified in God’s word, yet but few of you are obedient to the light given. Additional truth is not brought out; but God has through the Testimonies simplified the great truths already given, and in His own chosen way brought them before the people to awaken and impress the mind with them, that all may be left without excuse.” (5T 665
)

Many of our people do not realize how firmly the foundation of our faith has been laid. My husband, Elder Joseph Bates, Father Pierce, Elder {Hiram} Edson, and others who were keen, noble, and true, were among those who, after the passing of the time in 1844, searched for the truth as for hidden treasure. I met with them, and we studied and prayed earnestly. Often we remained together until late at night, and sometimes through the entire night, praying for light and studying the Word. Again and again these brethren came together to study the Bible, in order that they might know its meaning, and be prepared to teach it with power. When they came to the point in their study where they said, “We can do nothing more,” the Spirit of the Lord would come upon me, I would be taken off in vision, and a clear explanation of the passages

we had been studying would be given me, with instruction as to how we were to labor and teach effectively. Thus light was given that helped us to understand the scriptures in regard to Christ, His mission, and His priesthood. A line of truth extending from that time to the time when we shall enter the city of God, was made plain to me, and I gave to others the instruction that the Lord had given me.

During this whole time I could not understand the reasoning of the brethren. My mind was locked, as it were, and I could not comprehend the meaning of the scriptures we were studying. This was one of the greatest sorrows of my life. I was in this condition of mind until all the principal points of our faith were made clear to our minds, in harmony with the Word of God. The brethren knew that when not in vision, I could not understand these matters, and they accepted as light direct from heaven the revelations given. (1SM 206, 207)

. “Our first conference was at Volney in Brother Arnold’s barn. There were about thirty-five present, all that  could be collected in that part of the  state. There were hardly two agreed. Each was strenuous for his views, declaring that they were according to the Bible. . . . Brother Arnold held tha t the 1000 years of Revelation 20 were in the past; and that the 144,000 were those raised at Christ’s resurrection. And as we had the emblem of our dying Lord before us, and were about to commemorate His sufferings, Brother Arnold arose and said he had no faith in what we were about to do, that the Sacrament was a continuation of the Passover, to be observed but once a year. “These strange differences of opinion rolled a heavy weight upon me, especially as Brother Arnold spoke of the 1000 years being in the past. I knew that he was in error, and great grief pressed my spirits. . . . The light of Heaven rested upon me. I was soon lost to earthly things. My accompanying angel presented before me some of the errors of those present, and also the truth in contrast with their errors. That these discordant views, which they claimed to be according to the Bible, were only according to their opinion of the Bible, and that their errors must be yielded, and they unite upon the third angel’s message. Our meeting ended victoriously. Truth gained the victory.” Spiritual Gifts, vol. 2, 97–99.

The very last deception of Satan will be to make of none effect the testimony of the Spirit of God. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Prov. 29:18). Satan will work ingeniously, in different ways and through different agencies, to unsettle the confidence of God’s remnant people in the true testimony.—Selected Messages,  1, p. 48

For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

Based on an article by Joe Crews with little editing by Me.

There is a very important common theme running through this chapter. Almost every verse relates to the subject of judging, a problem which was most malignant in the early Christian church, even as it is in the modern church today. In order to understand the counsel given by Paul in Romans 14, we must first recognize the parties involved in the judging and the issues over which the judging was taking place. There were two main groups in the early church -the Jewish Christians who had been converted from Judaism, and the Gentile Christians who had been won from heathenism. These two groups did not get along very well. They were constantly judging each other. Now let’s notice what the division was all about. The Gentile Christians judged the Jewish Christians because they were eating meat which had been offered in sacrifice to idols. To the Gentile convert, such food was unfit to be eaten. Even though he was now a Christian, he could not forget how he once offered food to idols, and in his mind the eating of such food was connected to idol worship. The Jewish convert, on the other hand, had no such compunctions because he had always acknowledged only one God, and naturally felt no guilt about eating the meat which had been sacrificed to idols. It was sold in the market place at a cheaper price, and the Jewish Christians considered it a desirable bargain.

Now let’s read the first few verses of Romans 14 concerning the brother who was weak in the faith. “Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him that eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant?” Romans 14:1-4. Can we, by comparing other Scrip- tures, locate the weak brother? Can we also locate the problem which created the “judging” situation? Yes, we can. Paul had to deal with it at considerable length in 1 Corinthians 10 and 1 Corinthians 8. Notice his description: “As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. … Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. … But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak.” 1 Corinthians 8:4-9, emphasis added. Here we locate the weak brother of Romans 14:1-3. He was the Gentile Christian who felt that it was sinful to eat the meat which had been offered to idols. Paul agreed with the Jewish con- verts that there was nothing wrong with the food, since there is only one God after all. But he advised that the food not be eaten in front of the Gentile believers lest it be a stumbling block tothem. Compare this language with Paul’s counsel in Romans 14:13: “Judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.” In 1 Corinthians 8:11, 12, Paul asks this question: “And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.” Compare that statement with this one in Romans 14:15: “Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.” Also read Romans 14:21: “It is good er to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.” Obviously the accounts in Romans 14 and 1 Corinthians 8 are referring to the same problem.

Identical language is used in describing them, and the same judging was taking place in reference to the problem. One more point needs to be clarified. The meat in question was not “unclean meat” in the biblical sense. The question only revolved around food that was “esteemed” unclean by the Gentile Christians because it had been offered to idols. Actually, the heathen did not offer swine or other unclean animals in their sacrifices, as Acts 14:13 establishes. So when the Jewish Christians bought the food which had been offered to idols, it was not wrong in itself, as Paul pointed out. It became wrong only when it offended the “weak brother,” or the Gentile Christian, who esteemed it to be unclean through association with the idol. Some of the Gentile believers were so strong against it that they abstained from meat altogether and ate only herbs for fear they might eat some meat that had been offered to idols.

In Romans 14:1-3, Paul urges the Roman church to receive such people and honor their conscience. It was not a moral issue and should not be permitted to divide the church. By examining these apparent contradictions in the Bible relating to diet, we have also discovered the root of much theological confusion in today’s religious world. A simple understanding of the circumstances behind the writing enables us to grasp the words and phrases in their original format and to recognize the beautiful harmony and unity of Scripture. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother tooffend. 1 cor 8:13 compare this with But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died…. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. rom 14:15,21 Besides this Paul is talking about normal meat (Pure meat) For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. rom 14:20 He is not talking about the unhealthy and impure meat which we are eating now.
