Ellen White on Cricket and Football

Who invented sports and games?

Satan has devised a multitude of ways in which to keep men from serving God. He has invented sports and games. R&H SEP 10, 1901

Why Ellen White did not want students to see cricket?

And while men were playing the game of cricket, and others were watching the game, Satan was playing the game of life for their souls. Therefore we decided to locate our school where the students would not see cricket matches or horse races. We are just where God wants us to be, and many conversions have taken place in this school. AUCR July 26, 1899, Art. A, par. 19

What happens when we watch cricket or football?

On one occasion a view of these things was presented before me. The students were playing games of tennis and cricket matches. Then I saw an expression of the character of those amusements. It was presented to me as a species of idolatry, like the idols of the nations. The were more than visible spectators on the ground; Satan and his angels were at work on human minds, making his impressions. Ms 32, 1900

What makes Satan delighted?

The public feeling is that manual labor is degrading, yet men may exert themselves as much as they choose at cricket, baseball, or in pugilistic contests, without being regarded as degraded. Satan is delighted when he sees human beings using their physical and mental powers in that which does not educate, which is not useful, which does not help them to be a blessing to those who need their help. While the youth are becoming expert in games that are of no real value to themselves or to others, Satan is playing the game of life for their souls, taking from them the talents that God has given them, and placing in their stead his own evil attributes. It is his effort to lead men to ignore God. CT 274

To what satan uses his power to gain his object?

How much time is spent by intelligent human beings in horse racing, cricket matches, and ball playing! But will indulgence in these sports give men a desire to know truth and righteousness? Will it keep God in their thoughts? Will it lead them to inquire, How is it with my soul? All the powers of Satan are set in operation to hold the attention to frivolous amusements, and he is gaining his object. He is interposing his devisings between God and the soul. Ms96-1899.17

What is the characteristics of these games?

Some of the most popular amusements, such as football and boxing, have become schools of brutality. They are developing the same characteristics as did the games of ancient Rome. The love of domination, the pride in mere brute force, the reckless disregard of life, are exerting upon the youth a power to demoralize that is appalling. AH 500.

What is the example of Christ?

I cannot find an instance in the life of Christ where he devoted time to play and amusement. He was the great Educator for the present and the future life. I have not been able to find one instance where he educated his disciples to engage in amusement of football or pugilistic games, to obtain physical exercise, or in theatrical performances; and yet Christ was our pattern in all things. SpTed 191

Other quotes on this subject:

What force of powers is put into your games of football and your other inventions after the way of the Gentiles – exercises which bless no one! Just put the same powers into exercise in doing useful labor, and would not your record be more pleasing to meet in the great day of God? FE 229

At the horse races and football matches, which are attended by thousands and thousands of people, lives for which Christ shed his blood are thrown away. What will become of the souls of the men and boys whose lives are thus extinguished? Will they be counted worthy of the redemption which Christ died to secure for them? RH June 13, 1907

I had sent to Battle Creek to Professor Prescott, and to all our schools, in regard to the amusement question in match games and football. The light was given me that these things were not having an influence to help the students in the perfection of Christian character or in scholastic perfection. The dean of the English church came in to have teeth filled, and we had to suspend operations. Ms87-1893.

Why Pastors should be also trained as Medical Missionaries

Pastors should be trained as medical missionaries. We lack this badly in our theology seminaries.

The minister will often be called upon to act the part of a physician. He should have a training that will enable him to administer the simpler remedies for the relief of suffering. Ministers and Bible workers should prepare themselves for this line of work; for in doing it, they are following the example of Christ. They should be as well prepared by education and practice to combat disease of the body as they are to heal the sin – sick soul by pointing to the great Physician. MM 253

Doors that have been closed to him who merely preaches the gospel will be opened to the intelligent medical missionary. God reaches hearts through the relief of physical suffering. – Manuscript 58, 1901

I wish to tell you that soon there will be no work done in ministerial lines but medical missionary work. – Counsels on Health, 533 (1901).

Medical missionary work is the right hand of the gospel. It is necessary to the advancement of the cause of God. As through it men and women are led to see the importance of right habits of living, the saving power of the truth will be made known. Every city is to be entered by workers trained to do medical missionary work. As the right hand of the third angel’s message, God’s methods of treating disease will open doors for the entrance of present truth. – Testimonies for the Church 7:59

I can see in the Lord’s providence that the medical missionary work is to be a great entering wedge, whereby the diseased soul may be reached. – Counsels on Health, 535 (1893)

Medical missionary work is the pioneer work of the gospel, the door through which the truth for this time is to find entrance to many homes…. A demonstration of the principles of health reform will do much toward removing prejudice against our evangelical work. The Great Physician, the originator of medical missionary work, will bless all who thus seek to impart the truth for this time. – Counsels on Health, 497 (1902).

The principles of health reform are found in the Word of God. The gospel of health is to be firmly linked with the ministry of the Word. It is the Lord’s design that the restoring influence of health reform shall be a part of the last great effort to proclaim the gospel message. – Medical Ministry, 259

As a means of overcoming prejudice and gaining access to minds, medical missionary work must be done, not in one or two places only, but in many places where the truth has not yet been proclaimed. We are to work as gospel medical missionaries, to heal the sin – sick souls by giving them the message of salvation. This work will break down prejudice as nothing else can. – Testimonies For The Church 9:211 (1909).

Why God raised Ellen White as a prophet?

The church was in spiritual darkness during the dark ages for the span of several centuries. God rised several reformers who brought the church back to Bible but the churches formed as a result of the protestant reformation didn’t leave many of the false teachings of Papacy. For example many churches had a wrong form of baptsim, they continued to keep Sunday Worship instead of Biblical Sabbath, also the teaching of eternal burning of hell and immortality of soul were among the many false teaching which they clinged to after leaving Catholic church.

That is why God rised a prophet who can restore the church to the correct teaching of Bible.

1. A prophet unlike reformers and theologians is inspired and can give direct message from God.

2. When different theologians  can interpret Bible in different way a prophet alone can give infallible interpretation of the scriptures because she is inspired.

3. When Satan has brought thousands of deceptions and counterfeits there is a need for a prophet to expose them.

Besides doctrinal and prophetical role Ellen White has a major role in the following areas also

1. Education

2. Health and Healing

If you have read reports on Adventist have the longer life span on planet earth it is because God has given us the health message through the prophet Ellen White.

Key Quote for this note: Do not consider it a privation when you are called to leave the cities and move out into the country places. Here there await rich blessings for those who will grasp them {AH 141.3}

It was not God’s purpose that people should be crowded into cities, huddled together in terraces and tenements. In the beginning He placed our first parents amidst the beautiful sights and sounds He desires us to rejoice in today. The more nearly we come into harmony with God’s original plan, the more favorable will be our position to secure health of body, and mind, and soul. Ministry of Healing P 365

  1. Country Living – Place where Christ wants to take us to teach.

The Saviour’s life on earth was a life of communion with nature and with God. In this communion He revealed for us the secret of a life of power. ……

The childhood of Jesus, spent in poverty, had been uncorrupted by the artificial habits of a corrupt age. Working at the carpenter’s bench, bearing the burdens of home life, learning the lessons of obedience and toil, He found recreation amidst the scenes of nature, gathering knowledge as He sought to understand nature’s mysteries. He studied the word of God, and His hours of greatest happiness were found when He could turn aside from the scene of His labors to go into the fields, to meditate in the quiet valleys, to hold communion with God on the mountainside or amid the trees of the forest. The early morning often found Him in some secluded place, meditating, searching the Scriptures, or in prayer. With the voice of singing He welcomed the morning light. With songs of thanksgiving He cheered His hours of labor and brought heaven’s gladness to the toilworn and disheartened.

During His ministry Jesus lived to a great degree an outdoor life. His journeys from place to place were made on foot, and much of His teaching was given in the open air. In training His disciples He often withdrew from the confusion of the city to the quiet of the fields, as more in harmony with the lessons of simplicity, faith, and self-abnegation He desired to teach them.It was beneath the sheltering trees of the mountainside, but a little distance from the Sea of Galilee, that the Twelve were called to the apostolate and the Sermon on the Mount was given.

Christ loved to gather the people about Him under the blue heavens, on some grassy hillside, or on the beach beside the lake. Here, surrounded by the works of His own creation, He could turn their thoughts from the artificial to the natural. In the growth and development of nature were revealed the principles of His kingdom. As men should lift their eyes to the hills of God and behold the wonderful works of His hand, they could learn precious lessons of divine truth. In future days the lessons of the divine Teacher would thus be repeated to them by the things of nature. The mind would be uplifted and the heart would find rest.

When Jesus said to His disciples that the harvest was great and the laborers were few, He did not urge upon them the necessity of ceaseless toil, but bade them, “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:38. To His toil-worn workers today as really as to His first disciples He speaks these words of compassion, “Come ye yourselves apart, . . . and rest awhile.”

All who are under the training of God need the quiet hour for communion with their own hearts, with nature, and with God. In them is to be revealed a life that is not in harmony with the world, its customs, or its practices; and they need to have a personal experience in obtaining a knowledge of the will of God. We must individually hear Him speaking to the heart. When every other voice is hushed, and in quietness we wait before Him, the silence of the soul makes more distinct the voice of God. Min of Healing Chapter With Nature and With God

“And He goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto Him whom He would: and they came unto Him. And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach.”

It was beneath the sheltering trees of the mountainside, but a little distance from the Sea of Galilee, that the twelve were called to the apostolate, and the Sermon on the Mount was given. The fields and hills were the favorite resorts of Jesus, and much of His teaching was given under the open sky, rather than in the temple or the synagogues. No synagogue could have received the throngs that followed Him; but not for this reason only did He choose to teach in the fields and groves. Jesus loved the scenes of nature. To Him each quiet retreat was a sacred temple.

It was under the trees of Eden that the first dwellers on earth had chosen their sanctuary. There Christ had communed with the father of mankind. When banished from Paradise, our first parents still worshiped in the fields and groves, and there Christ met them with the gospel of His grace. It was Christ who spoke with Abraham under the

oaks at Mamre; with Isaac as he went out to pray in the fields at the eventide; with Jacob on the hillside at Bethel; with Moses among the mountains of Midian; and with the boy David as he watched his flocks. It was at Christ’s direction that for fifteen centuries the Hebrew people had left their homes for one week every year, and had dwelt in booths formed from the green branches “of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook.” Lev. 23:40.

In training His disciples, Jesus chose to withdraw from the confusion of the city to the quiet of the fields and hills, as more in harmony with the lessons of self-abnegation He desired to teach them. And during His ministry He loved to gather the people about Him under the blue heavens, on some grassy hillside, or on the beach beside the lake. Here, surrounded by the works of His own creation, He could turn the thoughts of His hearers from the artificial to the natural. In the growth and development of nature were revealed the principles of His kingdom. As men should lift up their eyes to the hills of God, and behold the wonderful works of His hands, they could learn precious lessons of divine truth. Christ’s teaching would be repeated to them in the things of nature. So it is with all who go into the fields with Christ in their hearts. They will feel themselves surrounded with a holy influence. The things of nature take up the parables of our Lord, and repeat His counsels. By communion with God in nature, the mind is uplifted, and the heart finds rest. Desire of Ages P 290,291

The Great Teacher laid plans for His work. Study these plans. We find Him traveling from place to place, followed by crowds of eager listeners. When He could, He would lead them away from the crowded cities to the quiet of the country. Here He would pray with them, and talk to them of eternal truths Medical Missionary P 299

2. Country living – Where Parents should grow their children.

Let no temporal advantages tempt parents to neglect the training of their children. Whenever possible, it is the duty of parents to make homes in the country for their children. The children and youth should be carefully guarded. They should be kept away from the hotbeds of iniquity that are to be found in our cities. Let them be surrounded by the influences of a true Christian home–a home where Christ abides.– Letter 268, 1906.

Before the overflowing scourge shall come upon the dwellers of the earth, the Lord calls upon all who are Israelites indeed to prepare for that event. To parents He sends the warning cry, Gather your children into your own houses; gather them away from those who are disregarding the commandments of God, who are teaching and practising evil. Get out of the large cities as fast as possible. Establish church schools. Give your children the Word of God as the foundation of all their education.–Testimonies, vol. 6, p. 195.

I am instructed by the Lord to warn our people not to flock to the cities to find homes for their families. To fathers and to mothers I am instructed to say, Fail not to keep your children within your own premises.– Manuscript 81, 1900.

Let children no longer be exposed to the temptations of the cities that are ripe for destruction. The Lord has sent us warning and counsel to get out of the cities. Then let us make no more investments in the cities. Fathers and mothers, how do you regard the souls of your children? Are you preparing the members of your families for translation into the heavenly courts? Are you preparing them to become members of the royal family? children of the heavenly King? “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” How will ease, comfort, convenience, compare with the value of the souls of your children?– Manuscript 76, 1905.

There is not one family in a hundred who will be improved physically, mentally, or spiritually, by residing in the city. Faith, hope, love, happiness, can far better be gained in retired places, where there are fields and hills and trees. Take your children away from the sights and sounds of the city, away from the rattle and din of streetcars and teams, and their minds will become more healthy. It will be found easier to bring home to their hearts the truth of the Word of God.– Manuscript 76, 1905.

Send the children to schools located in the city, where every phase of temptation is waiting to attract and demoralise them, and the work of character building is tenfold harder for both parents and children.– Fundamentals of Christian Education, p. 326. (1894).

Let parents understand that the training of their children is an important work in the saving of souls. In country places abundant useful exercise will be found in doing those things that need to be done, and which will give physical health by developing nerve and muscle. Out of the cities is my message for the education of our children. Country living P 14

So with the great majority of the best and noblest men of all ages. Read the history of Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph, of Moses, David, and Elisha. Study the lives of men of later times who have most worthily filled positions of trust and responsibility, the men whose influence has been most effective for the world’s uplifting.

How many of these were reared in country homes. They knew little of luxury. They did not spend their youth in amusement. Many were forced to struggle with poverty and hardship. They early learned to work, and their active life in the open air gave vigour and elasticity to all their faculties. Forced to depend upon their own resources, they learned to combat difficulties and to surmount obstacles, and they gained courage and perseverance. They learned the lessons of self-reliance and self-control. Sheltered in a great degree from evil associations, they were satisfied with natural pleasures and wholesome companionships. They were simple in their tastes and temperate in their habits. They were governed by principle, and they grew up pure and strong and true. When called to their lifework, they brought to it physical and mental power, buoyancy of spirit, ability to plan and execute, and steadfastness in resisting evil, that made them a positive power for good in the world. Country living P 16

3. Preparing for the Sunday Law Crisis

We are not to locate ourselves where we will be forced into close relations with those who do not honour God. . . . A crisis is soon to come in regard to the observance of Sunday. . . .

The Sunday party is strengthening itself in its false claims, and this will mean oppression to those who determine to keep the Sabbath of the Lord. We are to place ourselves where we can carry out the Sabbath commandment in its fullness. “Six days shalt thou labour,” the Lord declares, “and do all thy work; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work.” And we are to be careful not to place ourselves where it will be hard for ourselves and our children to keep the Sabbath.

If in the providence of God we can secure places away from the cities, the Lord would have us do this. There are troublous times before us.— Manuscript 99, 1908.

Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions;for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one. We should now begin to heed the instruction given us over and over again: Get out of the cities into rural districts, where the houses are not crowded closely together, and where you will be free from the interference of enemies.–Letter 5, 1904

4. Should we wait until Sunday Law to move to country living

The time has come, when, as God opens the way, families should move out of the cities. The children should be taken into the country. The parents should get as suitable a place as their means will allow. Though the dwelling may be small, yet there should be land in connection with it, that may be cultivated.–Manuscript 50, 1903.

Out of the cities, is my message at this time. Be assured that the call is for our people to locate miles away from the large cities. One look at San Francisco as it is today would speak to your intelligent minds, showing you the necessity of getting out of the cities. . . . {LDE 95.2}

Get out of the cities as soon as possible and purchase a little piece of land where you can have a garden, where your children can watch the flowers growing and learn from them lessons of simplicity and purity.–2SM 356 (1903).

Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions; for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one. We should now begin to heed the instruction given us over and over again: Get out of the cities into rural districts, where the houses are not crowded closely together, and where you will be free from the interference of enemies.–Letter 5, 1904.

The Lord has sent us warning and counsel to get out of the cities. Then let us make no more investments in the cities. Manuscript 76, 1905

Get out of the large cities as fast as possible. Test for churches v6 p 195

I could not sleep past two o’clock this morning. During the night season I was in council. I was pleading with some families to avail themselves of God’s appointed means, and get away from the cities to save their children. Some were loitering, making no determined efforts.  The angels of mercy hurried Lot and his wife and daughters by taking hold of their hands. Had Lot hastened as the Lord desired him to, his wife would not have become a pillar of salt. Lot had too much of a lingering spirit. Let us not be like him. The same voice that warned Lot to leave Sodom bids us, “Come out from among them, and be ye separate, . . . and touch not the unclean.” Those who obey this warning will find a refuge. Let every man be wide awake for himself, and try to save his family. Review and Herald, Dec. 11, 1900.

When iniquity abounds in a nation, there is always to be heard some voice giving warning and instruction, as the voice of Lot was heard in Sodom. Yet Lot could have preserved his family from many evils had he not made his home in this wicked, polluted city. All that Lot and his family did in Sodom could have been done by them, even if they had lived in a place some distance away from the city. Enoch walked with God, and yet he did not live in the midst of any city polluted with every kind of violence and wickedness, as did Lot in Sodom.

If righteous people like Enoch left larger cities then how did they evangelize cities.

5. Ministry in Cities.

“As God’s commandment-keeping people, we must leave the cities. As did Enoch, we must work in the cities but not dwell in them.–Manuscript 85, 1899. ”

“Enoch walked with God, and yet he did not live in the midst of any city ” Manuscript 94, 1903

“Leave the cities, and like Enoch come from your retirement to warn the people of the cities.” MR vol 1 p 250

“The cities are to be worked from outposts. Said the messenger of God, “Shall not the cities be warned? Yes, not by God’s people living in them, but by their visiting them, to warn them of what is coming upon the earth.”–Letter 182, 1902.”

What is the result of Lot who tried to evangelize by living in city.

Enoch walked with God, and yet he did not live in the midst of any city polluted with every kind of violence and wickedness, as did Lot in Sodom.–Manuscript 94, 1903.

Conclusion

Carefully Consider Every Move

Let everyone take time to consider carefully; and not be like the man in the parable who began to build, and was not able to finish. Not a move should be made but that movement and all that it portends are carefully considered–everything weighed. . . . To every man was given his work according to his several ability. Then let him not move hesitatingly, but firmly, and yet humbly trusting in God. Country Living P26

Was Ellen White a trinitarian?

I met few non trinitarian Adventist who believe that Ellen White was a non trinitarian. I have given quotes from her writings which shows that she is a trinitarian.

“The three powers of the Godhead have pledged Their might to carry out the purpose that God had in mind when He gave to the world the unspeakable gift of His Son.”—Review, July 18, 1907.

How many powers are there 2 or 3. Ellen White says 3…

“The Godhead was stirred with pity for the race, and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit gave Themselves to the working out of the plan of redemption. In order fully to carry out this plan, it was decided that Christ, the only begotten Son of God, should give Himself an offering for sin. What line can measure the depth of this love?”—Counsels on Health, 222.

Who are the persons in Godhead. Ellen White mentions Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

“The three powers of the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit, are pledged to be their strength and their efficiency in their new life in Christ Jesus.”—Australian Union Conference Record, October 7, 1907.

How many powers are there in Godhead. Ellen White: 3, What are their names: Father, Son an Holy Spirit.

“We are to co-operate with the three highest powers in heaven,—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost,—and these powers will work through us, making us workers together with God.”—Special Testimonies, Series B, No. 7, p. 51 (Ev 617).

How many Highest powers are there? Ellen White: 3, What are their names: Father, Son an Holy Spirit.

“In the great closing work we shall meet with perplexities that we know not how to deal with, but let us not forget that the three great powers of heaven are working, that a divine hand is on the wheel, and that God will bring His purposes to pass.”—Evangelism, 65 (Manuscript 118, 1902).

How many great powers are there in heaven? Ellen White: 3

“The eternal heavenly dignitaries—God, and Christ, and the Holy Spirit—arming them [the disciples] with more than mortal energy . . would advance with them to the work and convince the world of sin.”—Evangelism, 616 (Manuscript 145, 1901).

How many heavenly dignitaries are there: 3, What are their names: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Are all 3 eternal? Ellen White: yes

“The work of salvation is not a small matter, but so vast that the highest authorities are taken hold of by the expressed faith of the human agent. The eternal Godhead—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost—is involved in the action required to make ssurance to the human agent.”—Upward Look, 148.

Who are the persons in Godhead. Ellen White mentions Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

“The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the three holy dignitaries of heaven, have declared that They will strengthen men to overcome the powers of darkness. All the facilities of heaven are pledged to those who by their baptismal vows have entered into

a covenant with God.”—5 Bible Commentary, 1110 (Manuscript 92, 1901).

How many holy dignitaries are there: 3, What are their names: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, powers infinite and omniscient, receive those who truly enter into covenant relation with God. They are present at every baptism, to receive the candidates who have renounced the world and have received Christ into the soul temple. These candidates have entered into the family of God, and their names are inscribed in the Lamb’s book of life.”—Manuscript 27, 1900

Who are infinite and Omniscient: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“The work is laid out before every soul that has acknowledged his faith in Jesus Christ by baptism, and has become a receiver of the pledge from the three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”— 6 Bible Commentary, 1074.

In what name we should receive baptism: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“The prince of the power of evil can only be held in check by the power of God in the third Person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit.”—Series A, No. 10, p. 37 (Ev 617).

Who is the THIRD PERSON of Godhead: Holy Spirit

“The three highest powers in the universe are pledged to labor with those who will seek to save the lost.”—Review, August 12, 1909.

How many highest power are there in Universe: Ellen White: 3. What are their names: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“We need to realize that the Holy Spirit, who is as much a person as God is a person, is walking through these grounds.” E.G. White, Manuscript 66, 1899. (From a talk to the students at the Avondale School.). Evangelism, p. 616.

Is Holy Spirit a person or a power or an identity given to the omnipresence of God? Ellen White: A person just like the Father.

The Holy Spirit is a person, for He beareth witness with our spirits that we are the children of God.” E.G. White, Manuscript 20, 1906. Evangelism, p. 616.

Is Holy Spirit a person or a power or an identity given to the omnipresence of God? Ellen White: A person.

Christ, our Mediator, and the Holy Spirit are constantly interceding in man’s behalf, but the Spirit pleads not for us as does Christ, who presents His blood, shed from the foundation of the world; the Spirit works upon our hearts, drawing out prayers and penitence, praise and thanksgiving. The gratitude which flows from our lips is the result of the Spirit’s striking the cords of the soul in holy memories, awakening the music of the heart. {1SM 344.1}

Jesus and Holy Spirit are two different persons

Genesis 1-2-3 and Seventh Day Adventism

The first three chapters are sufficient to teach most Bible doctrines.

1. Marriage – is between one man and one woman

Gen 2:24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

2. Hell – If you break commandment of God you will die (note God didnt say that the day you eat the fruit you will be put into hell and burn forever)

Gen 2:17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

3. State of dead – when God breathed air into mans nostrils He became a living soul (living being). Note God didnt insert a soul into a body but breathed air.

Gen 2:7  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

“Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breaththey die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit[breath], they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.” (Psalm 104:29-30).

4. Sabbath – God rested on the seventhday and He blessed that day and made it holy.

Gen 2:2-3  And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified itbecause that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

5. Commandments – God commanded man not to eat the fruit. If you obey Gods commandment you live otherwise you die.

Gen 2:17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

6. Vegetarian diet- God gave plants as food for man.

Gen 1:29  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to youit shall be for meat.

Isa 65:25  The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

7. Country living – God placed man in a beautiful garden.

https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/category/ellen-white/country-living/

Gen 2:8  And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the manwhom he had formed.

8. Sanctuary – God taught that Christ will die for  mans sin by killing the lamb after man’s sin

Gen 3:21  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

9. Righteousnes by Faith-  Man tried to clothe himself with fig leaves but God clothed man with an animals skin i.e., He taught that man cannot the nakedness of his sin by his own works but only with the righteousness of Jesus.

Gen 3:7  And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.  Gen 3:21  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

10. Sunday Law

God told Man that there will be enmity between the church and the serpent and serprent will try to destroy the seed of the woman (church)

Gen 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Rev 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

11. Trinity

Gen 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Gen 3:22  And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

What Bible says about Ellen White?

Many think that the Bible is silent about Ellen White. But I see at-least 3 verses talking about Ellen White.

1. Ellen White announcing the entry of Christ into the most holy place in heavenly sanctuary and the judgement?

Behold, I will send my messenger (Ellen White), and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple(Most holy place where the judgement starts), even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. Mal 3: 1-3

2. The prophetic role of Ellen White at the end time in which her work turns people to God?

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. Mal 4:5, 6

3. Identification of the God’s church in the last days. Keeping of commandments of God and a prophet.

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Rev 12:17

(the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Rev 19:10; Rev 22:19)

Why Ellen White cannot be a false prophet?

Today there is so much unsuccessful effort put to prove Ellen White as a false prophet. They misquote her, take her quote out of context, insert phrases which she never wrote and put all kinds of false charges.

In spite of all these efforts the Testimonies given through the end time prophet remains vindicated.

Ellen White with the 8 KG Bible.

Early in 1845, while in vision at her parents’ home in Portland, Maine, 17-year-old Ellen Harmon (later White) picked up their large family Bible and held it on her outstretched left arm for 20 to 30 minutes. The story was documented by J. N. Loughborough who interviewed those who witnessed the vision, including Ellen’s father, mother, and sister. The Bible (on display at the Ellen G. White Estate) weighs 18½ pounds (8 kilos) and was printed by Joseph Teal in 1822. W. C. White, Ellen White’s son, also reported hearing of the incident from his parents. There are other reports of Ellen White holding large Bibles while in vision, including an eye-witness account printed in Spiritual Gifts, vol. 2, pp. 77-79.

Such experiences should not be considered proof of divine inspiration, as prophets must meet the tests set forth in the Scriptures; but this experience, as well as other remarkable physical phenomena, were seen as evidence by many early Adventists that Ellen Harmon’s visions were of supernatural origin. http://www.flickr.com/photos/interamerica/5425628622/

This note is not to disprove all the charges but the focus is on why Ellen White cannot be a false prophet.

Rev 12 gives us the time line of the Christian church since the birth of Jesus Christ (v2) through the Dark Ages (v6) to the pilgrims moving to the new uninhabited land America  (v16)

Rev 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Verse 17 tells us that the end time commandment keeping  church which comes after 1798 will have the testimony of Jesus.

Rev 19:10 tells us that  ” the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Compare this with Rev 1:2, Rev 22:9.

The end time church will have the spirit of prophecy or prophet compare (Rev 19:10 with Rev 22:9, here Spirit of Prophecy and Prophets are used interchangeably)If Ellen White is not the prophet of the end time commandment keeping church then who else.

In Last days – We should refrain from eating meat – Where is it in Bible?

I was hearing a sermon though the preacher didn’t say this he was giving a hint which made me understand the subject line i.e., Where is it in Bible it says we should refrain from eating meat in the last days.

In Lev 16:31 God said unto the people that the Day of atonement shall be a sabbath of rest unto them, and they should afflict your souls.

Again in Lev 23 it says 27Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. 28And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. 29For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. 30And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. Note here whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

This is an interesting point.

  • We should afflict our souls during the day of atonement. We are living in the literal day of atonement.
  • Whichever soul is not afflicted will be cut off from among his people.

On the day of atonement Israelites afflicted by fasting. See how Daniel afflicted himself when praying for his people In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. Dan 10:2,3

Should we who live in the literal day of atonement afflict our souls for ourselves and our people.

And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. Exe 9:4

Now let us see few Ellen White quotes and let us return to Bible again.

Now and onward till the close of time the people of God should be more earnest, more wide-awake, not trusting in their own wisdom, but in the wisdom of their Leader. They should set aside days for fasting and prayer. Entire abstinence from food may not be required, but they should eat sparingly of the most simple food.–CD 188, 189 (1904).

God is trying to lead us back, step by step, to His original design–that man should subsist upon the natural products of the earth. Among those who are waiting for the coming of the Lord meat eating will eventually be done away; flesh will cease to form a part of their diet. We should ever keep this end in view and endeavor to work steadily toward it.–CH 450 (1890).

Will whosoever doesn’t afflict himself during this literal day of atonement will be cut off from the people like Lev 23:29

Many who are now only half converted on the question of meat eating will go from God’s people, to walk no more with them.–RH May 27, 1902.

What Bible calls when we eat flesh instead of afflicting?

And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die. And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts. Isa 22:12-14

An iniquity!!

This is just a study. Please share with me your opinions after considering this carefully with prayer.

Is going back to original diet – Vegetarian diet Biblical? – 2

Excerpt from the part 1.

Spirit of Prophecy never says anything which is not in harmony with scriptures.  Is Going back to original diet Biblical? Through out the Bible we can see the principles of going back to the blue print.

Divorce is not in God’s original plan.
Polygamy is not in God’s original plan.
Meat Eating is allowed because of man’s lust. But God calls back to original diet.

SOP Quotes on this.

Greater reforms should be seen among the people who claim to be looking for the soon appearing of Christ. Health reform is to do among our people a work which it has not yet done. There are those who ought to be awake to the danger of meat eating who are still eating the flesh of animals, thus endangering the physical, mental, and spiritual health. Many who are now only half converted on the question of meat eating will go from God’s people, to walk no more with them.–RH May 27, 1902.

The true fasting which should be recommended to all is abstinence from every stimulating kind of food, and the proper use of wholesome, simple food, which God has provided in abundance. Men need to think less of what they shall eat and drink of temporal food, and much more in regard to the food from heaven, that will give tone and vitality to the whole religious experience.–MM 283 (1896).

Ellen White and her role in last days

“All who believe the Lord has spoken through Sister White, and has given her a message, will be safe from the many delusions that will come in these last days.” (3 SM 84)

In ancient times God spoke to men by the mouth of prophets and apostles. In these days He speaks to them by the testimonies of His Spirit. There was never a time when God instructed His people more earnestly than He instructs them now concerning His will and the course that He would have them pursue.” (5T 661)

“Sister White is not the originator of these books. They contain the instruction that during her lifework God has been giving her. They contain the precious, comforting light, that God has graciously given His servant to be given to the world.” (CM 125)

“The written testimonies are not to give new light, but to impress vividly upon the heart the truths of inspiration already revealed. Man’s duty to God and to his fellow man has been distinctly specified in God’s word, yet but few of you are obedient to the light given. Additional truth is not brought out; but God has through the Testimonies simplified the great truths already given, and in His own chosen way brought them before the people to awaken and impress the mind with them, that all may be left without excuse.” (5T 665
)

Many of our people do not realize how firmly the foundation of our faith has been laid. My husband, Elder Joseph Bates, Father Pierce, Elder {Hiram} Edson, and others who were keen, noble, and true, were among those who, after the passing of the time in 1844, searched for the truth as for hidden treasure. I met with them, and we studied and prayed earnestly. Often we remained together until late at night, and sometimes through the entire night, praying for light and studying the Word. Again and again these brethren came together to study the Bible, in order that they might know its meaning, and be prepared to teach it with power. When they came to the point in their study where they said, “We can do nothing more,” the Spirit of the Lord would come upon me, I would be taken off in vision, and a clear explanation of the passages

we had been studying would be given me, with instruction as to how we were to labor and teach effectively. Thus light was given that helped us to understand the scriptures in regard to Christ, His mission, and His priesthood. A line of truth extending from that time to the time when we shall enter the city of God, was made plain to me, and I gave to others the instruction that the Lord had given me.

During this whole time I could not understand the reasoning of the brethren. My mind was locked, as it were, and I could not comprehend the meaning of the scriptures we were studying. This was one of the greatest sorrows of my life. I was in this condition of mind until all the principal points of our faith were made clear to our minds, in harmony with the Word of God. The brethren knew that when not in vision, I could not understand these matters, and they accepted as light direct from heaven the revelations given. (1SM 206, 207)

. “Our first conference was at Volney in Brother Arnold’s barn. There were about thirty-five present, all that  could be collected in that part of the  state. There were hardly two agreed. Each was strenuous for his views, declaring that they were according to the Bible. . . . Brother Arnold held tha t the 1000 years of Revelation 20 were in the past; and that the 144,000 were those raised at Christ’s resurrection. And as we had the emblem of our dying Lord before us, and were about to commemorate His sufferings, Brother Arnold arose and said he had no faith in what we were about to do, that the Sacrament was a continuation of the Passover, to be observed but once a year. “These strange differences of opinion rolled a heavy weight upon me, especially as Brother Arnold spoke of the 1000 years being in the past. I knew that he was in error, and great grief pressed my spirits. . . . The light of Heaven rested upon me. I was soon lost to earthly things. My accompanying angel presented before me some of the errors of those present, and also the truth in contrast with their errors. That these discordant views, which they claimed to be according to the Bible, were only according to their opinion of the Bible, and that their errors must be yielded, and they unite upon the third angel’s message. Our meeting ended victoriously. Truth gained the victory.” Spiritual Gifts, vol. 2, 97–99.

The very last deception of Satan will be to make of none effect the testimony of the Spirit of God. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Prov. 29:18). Satan will work ingeniously, in different ways and through different agencies, to unsettle the confidence of God’s remnant people in the true testimony.—Selected Messages,  1, p. 48

For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

Based on an article by Joe Crews with little editing by Me.

There is a very important common theme running through this chapter. Almost every verse relates to the subject of judging, a problem which was most malignant in the early Christian church, even as it is in the modern church today. In order to understand the counsel given by Paul in Romans 14, we must first recognize the parties involved in the judging and the issues over which the judging was taking place. There were two main groups in the early church -the Jewish Christians who had been converted from Judaism, and the Gentile Christians who had been won from heathenism. These two groups did not get along very well. They were constantly judging each other. Now let’s notice what the division was all about. The Gentile Christians judged the Jewish Christians because they were eating meat which had been offered in sacrifice to idols. To the Gentile convert, such food was unfit to be eaten. Even though he was now a Christian, he could not forget how he once offered food to idols, and in his mind the eating of such food was connected to idol worship. The Jewish convert, on the other hand, had no such compunctions because he had always acknowledged only one God, and naturally felt no guilt about eating the meat which had been sacrificed to idols. It was sold in the market place at a cheaper price, and the Jewish Christians considered it a desirable bargain.

Now let’s read the first few verses of Romans 14 concerning the brother who was weak in the faith. “Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him that eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant?” Romans 14:1-4. Can we, by comparing other Scrip- tures, locate the weak brother? Can we also locate the problem which created the “judging” situation? Yes, we can. Paul had to deal with it at considerable length in 1 Corinthians 10 and 1 Corinthians 8. Notice his description: “As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. … Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled. … But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak.” 1 Corinthians 8:4-9, emphasis added. Here we locate the weak brother of Romans 14:1-3. He was the Gentile Christian who felt that it was sinful to eat the meat which had been offered to idols. Paul agreed with the Jewish con- verts that there was nothing wrong with the food, since there is only one God after all. But he advised that the food not be eaten in front of the Gentile believers lest it be a stumbling block tothem. Compare this language with Paul’s counsel in Romans 14:13: “Judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.” In 1 Corinthians 8:11, 12, Paul asks this question: “And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.” Compare that statement with this one in Romans 14:15: “Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.” Also read Romans 14:21: “It is good er to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.” Obviously the accounts in Romans 14 and 1 Corinthians 8 are referring to the same problem.

Identical language is used in describing them, and the same judging was taking place in reference to the problem. One more point needs to be clarified. The meat in question was not “unclean meat” in the biblical sense. The question only revolved around food that was “esteemed” unclean by the Gentile Christians because it had been offered to idols. Actually, the heathen did not offer swine or other unclean animals in their sacrifices, as Acts 14:13 establishes. So when the Jewish Christians bought the food which had been offered to idols, it was not wrong in itself, as Paul pointed out. It became wrong only when it offended the “weak brother,” or the Gentile Christian, who esteemed it to be unclean through association with the idol. Some of the Gentile believers were so strong against it that they abstained from meat altogether and ate only herbs for fear they might eat some meat that had been offered to idols.

In Romans 14:1-3, Paul urges the Roman church to receive such people and honor their conscience. It was not a moral issue and should not be permitted to divide the church. By examining these apparent contradictions in the Bible relating to diet, we have also discovered the root of much theological confusion in today’s religious world. A simple understanding of the circumstances behind the writing enables us to grasp the words and phrases in their original format and to recognize the beautiful harmony and unity of Scripture. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother tooffend. 1 cor 8:13 compare this with But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died…. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. rom 14:15,21 Besides this Paul is talking about normal meat (Pure meat) For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. rom 14:20 He is not talking about the unhealthy and impure meat which we are eating now.

Ellen White Predicts the False Tongues Movement

With reference to the fanatical excitement, which included tongues-speaking, that attended one group of people who set the time of Jesus’ coming at 1854, Ellen White wrote: “Some of these persons have exercises which they call gifts and say that the Lord has placed them in the church. They have an unmeaning gibberish which they call the unknown tongue, which is unknown not only to man but by the Lord and all heaven.Such gifts are manufactured by men and women, aided by the great deceiver. Fanaticism, false excitement, false talking in tongues, and noisy exercises have been considered gifts which God has placed in the church. . . . But the influence of such meetings is not beneficial. When the happy flight of feeling is gone, they sink lower than before the meeting because their happiness did not come from the right source” (Testimony for the Church, vol. 1, p. 412).

As early as 1850, Ellen White was shown the order that existed in heaven and among the angels of God. She was then warned about “the exercises,” and was told that they were “in great danger of being adulterated, . . .therefore implicit confidence could not be placed in these exercises.” She then said, “I saw that we should strive at all times to be free from unhealthy and unnecessary excitement. I saw that there was great danger of leaving the Word of God and resting down and trusting in exercises. I saw that God had moved by His Spirit upon your company in some of their exercises and their promptings; but I saw danger ahead” (Ms 11, 1850, see Manuscript Releases, vol. 5, pp. 226, 227).

“The things you have described as taking place in Indiana, the Lord has shown me would take place just before the close of probation. Every uncouth thing will be demonstrated. There will be shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The senses of rational beings will become so confused that they cannot be trusted to make right decisions. And this is called the moving of the Holy Spirit.
“The Holy Spirit never reveals itself in such methods, in such a bedlam of noise. This is an invention of Satan to cover up his ingenious methods for making of none effect the pure, sincere, elevating, ennobling, sanctifying truth for this time” (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 36).

“During those trying days some of our most precious believers were led into fanaticism. I said further that before the end we would see strange manifestations by those who professed to be led by the Holy Spirit. There are those who will treat as something of great importance these peculiar manifestations, which are not of God, but which are calculated to divert the minds of many away from the teaching of the Word” (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 41).

Those things which have been in the past will be in the future. Satan will make music a snare by the way in which it is conducted” (Selected Messages, vol. 2, p. 38)

Understanding Ellen White’s message on Meat eating

Ellen White gives the below reasons for why we should not eat meat.

I have never felt that it was my duty to say that no one should taste meat under any circumstance. To say this . . . would be carrying matters to extremes.I have never felt that it was my duty to make sweeping assertions. Letter 76 (June 6), 1895.  I advise every Sabbath-keeping canvasser to avoid meat eating, not because it is regarded as sin to eat meat, but because it is not healthful.

Again and again I have been shown that God is trying to lead us back, step by step, to His original design,–that man should subsist upon the natural products of the earth. Among those who are waiting for the coming of the Lord, meat-eating will eventually be done away; flesh will cease to form a part of their diet. We should ever keep this end in view, and endeavor to work steadily toward it.
Two reasons one it is unhealthy and the other God is asking as to go back to the original diet. (I ll be posting an article on this. Is Going back to original diet Biblical? Thorough out the Bible we can see the principles of going back to the blue print.) She writes to say no one should taste meat under any circumstance is carrying matter to extremes.
But Ellen White struggled for many years to leave flesh diet even though she believed and preached it. We should remember this message is from God not from Ellen White.

Since Ellen White ate meat they use this as a reason for rejecting her as a prophet and her message. Let us remember Ellen White is not our example.  Even after coming to the knowledge of  truth it takes time to leave some Old habits. Essential thing is a heart willing to obey. God helps us to obey His principles.

There is real common sense in dietetic reform. The subject should be studied broadly and deeply, and no one should criticize others because their practice is not, in all things, in harmony with his own. It is impossible [in matters of diet] to make an unvarying rule to regulate everyone’s habits, and no one should think himself a criterion for all.  MH 319, 320.

In a letter to a non Adventist she writes.

I am happy to assure you that as a denomination we are in the fullest sense total abstainers from the use of spiritous liquors, wine, beer, [fermented] cider, and also tobacco and all other narcotics. . . . All are vegetarians, many abstaining wholly from the use of flesh food, while others use it in only the most moderate degree.

Ellen White applies the term vegetarian to those who habitually abstained from eating flesh food, yet were not necessarily total abstainers. So Ellwn White is not a hypocrite in teaching vegetarian diet and sometimes eating meat.
It took time for her to leave meat eating. Other wise she took meat when other food is not available or the meat (butter) is from healthy animals.

Since the camp meeting at Brighton (January, 1894) I have absolutely banished meat from my table. It is an understanding that whether I am at home or abroad, nothing of this kind is to be used in my family, or come upon my table. I have had much representation before my mind in the night season on this subject. {CD 488.1}

We purchase butter for cooking purposes from dairies where the cows are in healthy condition, and have good pasture. Counsels on Diet and Foods p. 488
“Two years ago [1894] I came to the conclusion that there was danger in using the flesh of dead animals, and since then I have not used meat at all. It is never placed on my table. I use fish when I can get it. We can get beautiful fish from the saltwater lake near here. I use neither tea nor coffee. As I labor against these things, I cannot but practice that which I know to be best for health, and my family are all in perfect harmony with me. You see, my dear niece, that I am telling you matters just as they are.”

A few weeks after the duck eating experience in the Rockies in October 1873, Elder and Mrs. White were in California and she on February 15, 1874, reported that since they had been in that state they had dropped meat entirely, having “bought meat once for May Walling while she was sick, but not a penny have we expended for meat since.”–Letter 12, 1874, p. 1

Now as to my own experience: Meat seldom appears on my table; for weeks at a time I would not taste it, and after my appetite had been trained, I grew stronger, and could do better work. When I came to the Retreat, I determined not to taste meat, but I could get scarcely anything else to eat, and therefore ate a little meat. . . . {7MR 349.3}

“Not a morsel of meat or butter has been on my table since I returned. We have milk, fruit, grains, and vegetables. For a time I lost all desire for food. Like the children of Israel, I hankered after flesh meats. But I firmly refused to have meat bought or cooked. I was weak and trembling, as every one who subsists on meat will be when deprived of the stimulus. But now my appetite has returned, I enjoy bread and fruit, my head is generally clear, and my strength firmer. I have none of the goneness so common with meat eaters. I have had my lesson, and, I hope, learned it well. . . .
“In regard to our diet, we have not placed butter on our table for ourselves for years, until we came to the Rocky Mountains. We felt that a little butter, in the absence of vegetables and fruit was less detrimental to health than the use of much salt or sugar, sweet cake and knickknacks. We do not use it now, and have not for many weeks.”–Letter 1, 1873, p. 12
Often while there [at the Rural Health Institute, St. Helena, Calif.] I was compelled to eat meat because there was nothing else that I could eat.At times I would be so faint and dizzy for the want of good wholesome food that I fairly reeled through weakness. [The cook] has not made it her study to prepare wholesome dishes in order that flesh meat as a food may become less and less necessary.–Letter 4, 1884, p. 3. (To Brother and Sister Maxson, February 6, 1884.)

Country Living and City Evangelism

Ellen White taught to people who lived in her time to evangelize cities but not to stay in them.

The time has come, when, as God opens the way, families should move out of the cities. The children should be taken into the country. The parents should get as suitable a place as their means will allow. Though the dwelling may be small, yet there should be land in connection with it, that may be cultivated.–Manuscript 50, 1903.

Out of the cities, is my message at this time. Be assured that the call is for our people to locate miles away from the large cities. One look at San Francisco as it is today would speak to your intelligent minds, showing you the necessity of getting out of the cities. . . . {LDE 95.2}

Thoughts on Country Living

Enoch’s walk with God was not in a trance or vision, but in all the duties of his daily life. He did not become a hermit, shutting himself entirely from the world; for he had a work to do for God in the world. In the family and in his intercourse with men, as a husband and father, a friend, a citizen, he was the steadfast, unwavering servant of the Lord.
Distressed by the increasing wickedness of the ungodly, and fearing that their infidelity might lessen his reverence for God, Enoch avoided constant association with them, and spent much time in solitude, giving himself to meditation and prayer. Thus he waited before the Lord, seeking a clearer knowledge of His will, that he might perform it. To him prayer was as the breath of the soul; he lived in the very atmosphere of heaven.
Through holy angels God revealed to Enoch His purpose to destroy the world by a flood, and He also opened more fully to him the plan of redemption. By the spirit of prophecy He carried him down through the generations that should live after the Flood, and showed him the great events connected with the second coming of Christ and the end of the world.

In the midst of a life of active labor, Enoch steadfastly maintained his communion with God. The greater and more pressing his labors, the more constant and earnest were his prayers. He continued to exclude himself, at certain periods, from all society. After remaining for a time among the people, laboring to benefit them by instruction and example, he would withdraw, to spend a season in solitude, hungering and thirsting for that divine knowledge which God alone can impart. Communing thus with God, Enoch came more and more to reflect the divine image. His face was radiant with a holy light, even the light that shineth in the face of Jesus. As he came forth from these divine communings, even the ungodly beheld with awe the impress of heaven upon his countenance.

The Great Teacher laid plans for His work. Study these plans. We find Him traveling from place to place, followed by crowds of eager listeners. When He could, He would lead them away from the crowded cities to the quiet of the country. Here He would pray with them, and talk to them of eternal truths

Is going back to original diet – Vegetarian diet Biblical?

Spirit of Prophecy never says anything which is not in harmony with scriptures.  Is Going back to original diet Biblical? Through out the Bible we can see the principles of going back to the blue print.

  • Divorce is not in God’s original plan.

Though He allowed it He calls them to the original plan for marriage. Matthew 19 3The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

  • Polygamy is not in God’s original plan.

But Patriarchs like Abraham, Jacob and David did it. But in New testament God calls them to original plan of monogamy. To David Nathan says.. And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.2 Samuel 12: 8 (He has given wives to David) But he calls back to the original plan. Ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee. If any be blameless, the husband of one wife Titus 1:5,6 (Margin) Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 1 Timothy 3:12 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach 1 Timothy 3:2

  • Meat Eating is allowed because of man’s lust. But God calls back to original diet.

But after the fall, men chose to follow their own sinful desires; and as the result, crime and wretchedness rapidly increased……. They delighted in destroying the life of animals; and the use of flesh for food rendered them still more cruel and blood-thirsty, until they came to regard human life with astonishing indifference. PP 92

The human family has been growing more and more self-indulgent, until health has been most successfully sacrificed upon the altar of lustful appetite. The inhabitants of the Old World were intemperate in eating and drinking. They would have flesh-meats, although God had given them no permission to eat animal food. TSDF 62

The people who lived before the flood ate animal food, and gratified their lusts until their cup of iniquity was full, and God cleansed the earth of its moral pollution by a flood. After the flood the people ate largely of animal food. God saw that the ways of man were corrupt, and that he was disposed to exalt himself proudly against his Creator, and to follow the inclinations of his own heart.  4aSG 121

Further Ellen White writes in the same passage “He did not prohibit their eating meat” As Ellen White writes since they were already perverting their diet with meat He allowed them to eat but only animals which will be healthy to eat i.e., clean animals. Now in Isaiah 65 He tells that He wants to go back to original diet. 17For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. (this is not the new heaven which and new earth which comes after 1000 years) 20There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die a hundred years old; but the sinner being a hundred years old shall be accursed. (see there will be death and sinner. In new heaven which and new earth which comes after 1000 years there won’t be death and sinner) 23They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them. (There won’t be Child birth in new heaven) Now see this… 25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD. If god wants Wolf and Lion to go back to vegetarian diet what about humans….

Again in Isa 22: 12And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: 13And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we shall die. 14And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts. Bible say it is an iniquity to eat flesh when God wants us to afflict ourselves to receive the sealing of God. Read Lev 23. 27-29, isa 22.12-14, Eze 9.4-8 & Rev 7.3-4. In Isaiah God calls this as iniquity. Now is the day of atonement when God wants Adventist to sigh and cry for the Adventist church and the world.
