Godhead study 7: Holy Ghost – a person or power

The identity of Holy Ghost is challenged by the non trinitarians claiming that He is force or presence of God.

There are lot of unambiguous evidence in scriptures which proves that Holy Spirit is a person very much as the Father and Son.

Three strongest statements on the belief of three person Godhead are below:

Go ye therefore, and teach j all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost Mat 28:19

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion i of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. 2 Cor 13:14

For there are three that bear record b in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 1 John 5:7 (some Bible translations from corrupted manuscripts do not have it. These manuscripts are rejected by early church as corrupted)

Some other verses which are very much unambiguous in proving the person of Holy Ghost.

Evidence 1:

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. John 16:13,14 (Emphasis by me)

Holy Spirit….

a) doesn’t speak of Himself
b) Hears
c) speaks
d) glorify another person
e) receives from someone

These qualities show that Holy Ghost is a person not power or presence.

Evidence 2:

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: John 16:8

He reproves the world

Evidence 3

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30

He can be grieved

Evidence 4

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, d that he may abide with you for ever; John 14:16

He is another comforter like Jesus. The Greek word used for ‘another’ means another being of same kind or species.

Evidence 5

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Rom 8:26

He intercedes on behalf of humans. A power or presence cannot speak on behalf of somebody.

Evidence 6

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Acts 5:3

He can be lied to. Can you lie to a power or presence.

Evidence 7

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing h to every man severally as he will. 1 Cor 12:11

Holy Spirit has His own will.

Evidence 8

He directs and instructs men

Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. Acts 8:29

While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. Acts 10:19

Godhead study 6: Jesus the Almighty God

Key text: I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Rev 1:8

Christ is the Lord who was, who is and who is going to come; Christ is talking here not the Father as watch tower society teaches.

Jesus and His Omnipresence:

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. John 1: 45-49

Jesus could see Nathaniel even though He was physically present somewhere else in His body.

Please note: Christ during His incarnation limited His Almighty nature and used it only at the will of His Father.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Mat 18:20

Jesus can be present everywhere and hence He promises to be present when people gather in His name.

Jesus and His Omniscience:

But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. John 2:24, 25

Bible says Jesus knows everything.

And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, Luke 9:47 (marginal)

Jesus and His Omnipotence:

…and by him all things consist. Col 1: 17 (marginal)

.. upholding all things by the word of his power.. Heb 1:3 (marginal)

Bible says everything in the universe functions by the power of Christ.

Godhead Study 5: Commonly Misunderstood Verses

a) First Born

Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature (KJV)

The preposition ‘of’ suggests that Jesus is a created being. But we need to understand that the preposition is not there in the original Greek and was supplemented to complete the sentence.

Some translations render the word ‘over’ instead of ‘of’.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. NIV

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation NLT

How do we know that we should use over not of?

We have seen in lesson 4 that Bible is very clear on that Jesus is not a created being. Check my website for lesson 4 in case you missed it.

The word firstborn means the one who is having preminence.

And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: Exo 4:22

Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. Psalms 89: 27

Someone can be made into firstborn!

b) Begotten

Another misunderstood phrase is Jesus was begotten. In lesson 4 we saw that Bible is very clear that Jesus coexisting with Father since eternity.

Now we understand the term begotten.

Paul says he had begotten son.

I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: Philemon 1:10

For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 1 Cor 4: 15

We can spiritually begot someone.

By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son. Heb 11:17

Isaac is called Abraham’s only begotten son though he had 7 other sons.

How do we know Jesus was spiritually begotten for a purpose.

Bible tells us why Jesus is called begotten son. Read this carefully. You will Jesus is called begotten son for a reason.

God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that He hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Acts 13:33

Jesus was begotten as son for the plan of salvation. The word begotten was fulfilled when Jesus was resurrected. Please read the above verse again.

In Psalms 2 we see the below sequence

v1-3, we see man’s sin. Humanity’s rebellion against God and Messiah (here Anointed)

v7-12, God declares His plan for humanity i.e., Jesus is begotten as son., higher than the kings of the earth. Psalms 89: 27

(All Emphasis on Bible Verses are by me)

Godhead Study 4: Was Jesus created or literally begotten?

Some Christians teach that Jesus was the first created being. Some Christians teach that Father alone existed in the beginning and Jesus was literally begotten by the Father into a new being.

Does Bible support those views?

Isa 48:12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. (Emphasis by me)

The Old Testament God repeatedly claims that He is the first and He is the last. God created all things and nothing existed before God, hence He claims to be the first. Similarly everything is sustained by God. After Him there will be nothing hence He claims to be the last.

God alone can claim that He is first and last

In New Testament we see Jesus also making the same claim!

Rev 2:8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive (Emphasize by me)

Jesus also repeatedly claims in New Testament that He is the first and last.

If God created Jesus or literally begot Jesus then Jesus cannot be First; at the maximum Jesus can be second.

By claiming to be first and the last just like God of the old testament, Jesus tells us that He co-existed with God from eternity without any beginning.

Let us see another verse which makes it very clear.

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

It says all created things are created by Jesus. There is no created thing which is not created by Jesus. Logically it means Father did not create anything without Jesus; also logically Jesus is not a created being.

Godhead Study 3: Is Jesus God?

We need to understand that the word god is not a name of a person but it is title given to a person like King or President.

God is also name given to a being who possesses these things omniscient, omnipresent and omnipresence. To make it clearer, it is name of a species like man, lion or tiger.

Let us see the below three verses which helps us understand the term ‘god’.

Who, being in the *form of God*, thought it not robbery to be *equal with God* Phi 2:6

We see two things, Jesus is equal with a person called God (title of a particular individual) and Jesus is in the form of God (species of an individual).

In the beginning was the Word, and the *Word was with God*, and the *Word was God*. John 1:1

Jesus was with God (title of particular individual) and Jesus was (also) God (species of an individual belong to).

What is this title of an individual and species of an individual! Let us see the below verse which helps us to understand.

This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them(mankind – species); and blessed them, and called their (notices the plurality) name Adam (name of the species both man and woman), in the day when they were created. Gen 5:1,2 (the words in brackets are mine)

Adam (which means man in Hebrew) is title of a person and also name of the species mankind.

Example:

Man – title of a person
Man – name of the species ( man and woman are collectively called man)

Lion – title of a male lion
Lion – name of the species (both lion and lioness are collectively called with their species name i.e., lion)

In summary the title God belongs to Father alone. But Jesus is also god not in title but as a being (He is not an angelic being or any other created being). Jesus is a self existing being just like the Father who has no beginning and end (we will see this in the next lesson)

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Titus 2:13

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 1 John 5:20

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Rev 1:8

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isa 9:6

Godhead study 2: Does old testament support more than one person Godhead doctrine?

Evidence 1:

The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Psa 110:1

We see a messianic prophecy where God addressing Messiah whom David calls as Lord.

Evidence 2:

Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord God, and his Spirit, hath sent me. Isa 48:16

Jesus speaking here as the one who speaks from the beginning. He says God and His Spirit has sent Him.

Evidence 3:

And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Gen 3:22

God speaking about man who became like one of them (plural).

Evidence 4:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isa 9:6

Another messianic prophecy where Messiah is called as both everlasting Father and mighty God.

Evidence 5:

But thou, Beth–lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Micah 5:2

Messiah is from eternity who had no beginning.

Godhead study 1: Does Old Testament God has a son?

Muslims and Jews deny that God has a son. Do we have sufficient evidence in Old Testament to prove that God has a son?

Evidence 1:

Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? *who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name*, if thou canst tell? Pro 30:4 (Emphasis by me)

The above verse is talking about God (who has established all ends of the earth) and the says He has a son.

Evidence 2:

I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Kiss l the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. Psa 2: 7, 12.

In verse 7 we that God declares someone as His son. Also this son cannot be a human or created being as we see in verse 12 that we are asked to trust in the son. Throughout Psalms we are asked to put our trust in God and not in man. Psalms 2.12 won’t contradict all other verses in Psalms which is asking us to put our Trust in God alone. So the son in verse 7 must be God.

Does Bible differentiate Ten commandments and ceremonial law (law of Moses)

1. Moral law written by God and Ceremonial law written by Moses

Exodus 31:18, “And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God .”

Deuteronomy 31:9, “And Moses wrote this law .”

2. Moral law declared by God to people but ceremonial law declared by God to Moses

Deuteronomy 4:36; 5:22, “Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: …These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more . And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.”

Notice the key word ‘He added no more’. God did not add ceremonial law to be a continuation of Moral law.
Exodus 33:9, “And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses .”

3. God distinguished Ten commandments and ceremonial law

Deuteronomy 4:13-14, “And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone. And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.”

2 Kings 21:8, “Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them

4. Moral law tells us what is sin. Mosaic law gives the penalty for breaking and ordinance to get forgiveness for sin. Constitutes ceremonies and civil law.
Daniel 9:11, “Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God.

5. Moral law was placed inside the ark as foundation for God’s presence but mosaic law was kept aside as witness against people
Deuteronomy 31:24-26, “And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book , until they were finished, That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying, Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.”

Exodus 25:16, “And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.”

6. God made Moses to write mosaic law but did not made Moses to write ten commandments even after the tablets were broken by Moses.
Exodus 34:1, “Hew thee two tablets of stone like unto first; and I will write upon the tablets the words that were on the first tables , which thou didst break .”

Multiple laws in Bible

There are more than one law in Bible

1. Moral law or Ten commandments

The moral law or Ten commandments are given to entire mankind.
Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecc 12.13 (Marginal)

God wrote the moral law with His own hand.
And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God. Exo 31.18

Only those keep the commandments will enter into heaven
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Rev 22.14
The moral law was kept even before it was given in written form to Moses
Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Gen 26.5

New testament believers need to keep the commandments
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. 1 cor 7.19

2. Ceremonial laws or laws of Moses

The second type of law is the ceremonial laws

It is written by Moses
And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and unto all the elders of Israel. Deu 31.9

Law of Moses describes the punishment for breaking the ten commandments

Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him. Dan 9.11

Note what Daniel is says law of Moses has punishment for breaking laws of God. There are two laws here.

Mosaic law need not be kept by new testament believers as they point to Jesus.
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. 1 cor 7.19

3. Law of sin

ROM 7 and 8 talks about law of sin and how this enslaves us to sin.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. ROM 8.2.
For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: [23] But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. [24] O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? [25] I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Rom 7.22-25.

4. Civil laws

These were laws given to the nation of Israel.
These are not ceremonial laws but these are laws governing the civil aspects of the nation of Israel.
For example eye for an eye; tooth for a tooth are civil laws

5. Health laws
These laws are first given to Adam, Bible records Noah had an knowledge of it but it is first given in written form to Moses.
For example what to do be carcasses of animals, how to pass stool, what to do with lepers constitute the health laws.

The Old and New Covenant

In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. Hebrew 8:13

Covenant means agreement.

Old covenant was between God and Israelites. Mediator Moses..

New covenant is between God and spiritual Israelites. Mediator Christ.

In old covenant law was written by God in stone.

In new covenant law is written by God in our hearts

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: heb 8.10

But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 31:33

In the old covenant Israelites made covenant with God to keep his laws but they didn’t follow it.

They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;. PSA 78.10

The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. ISA 24.5

Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law. Hos 8.1

So God has to make a new covenant with us the spiritual Israelites. This time God writes the law in our inwards parts. Law is written in our hearts. God gives a new Nature which keeps the law perfectly. We keep the law out of love not in a legalistic way.

Are God’s 10 Commandments Still Binding, Today for new covenant Christians?

Most Christians believe that the ten commandments are abolished in the cross or Christ made an end to it and new covenant Christians are not bound to it especially the 4th commandment.

I see that Bible has very strong evidence supporting the existence of Sabbath prior to Sinai and after Calvary. I will be covering this in a separate note.

Does Ten commandments bind the new covenant Christians.

I want to be clear in this “No man is justified by keeping the Law for we are all sinners and once breaking the Law then we are sure to punished by death” The soul that sinneth will die. Eze 18  Wages if sins is death. Rom 6:23

But Christ delivers us from the condemnation of breaking the Law for He took our punishment and died for our sins so we can live His life which only belongs to Him.

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4

Bibles defines sin as the act of breaking the Law. Also Rom 3:20 says us that “for by the law is the knowledge of sin”

Christ delivers us from the power of sin(act of breaking the Law) and the condemnation of breaking the law (which is death).   What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Rom 6:1,2

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Bible tells us that after being delivered from the power of sin and the condemnation of breaking the law Christ gives a renewed heart to every repented sinner.

This renewed mind delights to keep the law and in its very nature obeys the law of God. It is unlike the carnal mind which it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Rom 8:6,7

The argument commonly given is the New covenant Christians have new commandments which says “Love thine God with all thine heart, with all thine mind and with all thine strength and Love thy neighbor as thy self”

But these 2 commandments are the summary of the Decalogue.

The first 4 commandments tells us about “loving God” and the next 6 commandments tells us about loving our neighbour.

For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Rom 13:9

James, brother of the Lord, makes it very clear that the Decalogue is still binding.

In James 2 he writes If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

He also writes that if we break one of the ten commandments we will still be held guilty as breaking all the ten.

James 2: 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

John in his vision sees a church which keeps the commandments even at the end of time.

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Rev 12:17

Additional verses

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2:3,4

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Rev 22:14

Did Cain and Abel had the knowledge of Ten commandments?

Cain and Abel had the knowledge of Ten commandments.

The key text to conclude this would be “Gen 4: 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.”

Romans 3:20 for by the law is the knowledge of sin. (margin)

Bible tells us that by law is the knowledge of sin. Cain cannot be accused of doing sin if he has no knowledge of what is sin.

Also see Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Also Cain and Abel had the knowledge of ceremonial system which points to Christ who would die as the penalty for their sin(breaking law). Abel acknowledged this and gave a animal sacrifice.

Young’s Literal Translation

And it cometh to pass at the end of days that Cain bringeth from the fruit of the ground a present to Jehovah; Gen 4:3.

At the end of days. Cain and Abel came to worship on the end of days i.e., 7th day. Cain and Abel also kept Sabbath

Also note:

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Gen 26: 5 Until Sinai there was knowledge of commandments, laws and ceremonies. Even the patriarchs paid tithe.

Jehovah Witnesses Visits my Home

Watch Tower Organization's failed prophecy predictions
Watch Tower Organization’s failed prophecy predictions

Couple of years back two Jehovah Witness ladies came to my house upon my invitation.

They asked me why I invited them and what I wanted to discuss.

I asked them “Why you don’t believe that Jesus is God?”

They answered, ‘Does Bible says that Jesus is God?”

I answered “John 1:1 says that Jesus was God”

Now they changed their question from Does Bible says Jesus is God to ‘Does Bible says that Jesus is Almighty God?’

I quoted ” Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. ”

(Note: In the previous verse it is Jesus who is addressing himself ‘Rev 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.’ Also in verse 11, Jesus claims to be the Alpha and Omega)

They answered in Watch Towers translation this is made clear that the word Almighty is pointing to God the Father and not Jesus.

“How can an organization makes alteration to word of God to suit their beliefs. I also asked why they substituted words in new testament to ‘Jehovah’ when the name ‘Jehovah’ is not there in the original manuscripts of Greek. ”

To this they answered “you seem to know everything then you don’t need us” and rose up to leave. Since I know the conversation is going to end I asked the final question “How can you trust an organization which repeatedly made failed predictions of the date of Jesus second coming. They repeatedly set dates like 1914, 1918, 1925, 1953 and 1975 and all of which failed. How can I trust this organizations teaching when their interpretations failed and they are changing their position of what they believe.

They left hastily in anger.

In another encounter with a different group they answered “Watchtower made wrong understanding in each circumstances and they failed to listen correctly to Jehovah’s voice and now we have got everything right”

I asked them, ” How can you be sure now that now they understand Jehovah’s voice correctly when they earlier failed to listen to Jehovah’s voice correctly “

The Investigative and Millennial Judgment.

Dan 7:9  I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

Dan 7:10  A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

So the judgment happens after the reign of 4th beast power. that is after 1798. This judgment is investigative in nature. There terms like the judgment was set and books were opened shows us that the judgment was investigative in nature.

Act 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

So the blotting out of sins from the records we saw in Dan 7:10 happens in future.

This judgement should be only for saints, why?

1Pe 4:17  For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

Bible says Judgment begins in the house of God i.e., righteous will be judged first.

The judgment of the wicked happens in the millennium.

1Co 6:2  Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

1Co 6:3  Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

So the saints judge both the wicked men and fallen angels

Rev 20:4  And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Rev 20:5  But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

The saints judge the wicked in the millennium.

The wicked who will be part of second resurrection will be receiving their punishment after the third coming of Lord.

Rev 20:9  And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

Rev 20:12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Rev 20:14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Was Ellen White a trinitarian?

I met few non trinitarian Adventist who believe that Ellen White was a non trinitarian. I have given quotes from her writings which shows that she is a trinitarian.

“The three powers of the Godhead have pledged Their might to carry out the purpose that God had in mind when He gave to the world the unspeakable gift of His Son.”—Review, July 18, 1907.

How many powers are there 2 or 3. Ellen White says 3…

“The Godhead was stirred with pity for the race, and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit gave Themselves to the working out of the plan of redemption. In order fully to carry out this plan, it was decided that Christ, the only begotten Son of God, should give Himself an offering for sin. What line can measure the depth of this love?”—Counsels on Health, 222.

Who are the persons in Godhead. Ellen White mentions Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

“The three powers of the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit, are pledged to be their strength and their efficiency in their new life in Christ Jesus.”—Australian Union Conference Record, October 7, 1907.

How many powers are there in Godhead. Ellen White: 3, What are their names: Father, Son an Holy Spirit.

“We are to co-operate with the three highest powers in heaven,—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost,—and these powers will work through us, making us workers together with God.”—Special Testimonies, Series B, No. 7, p. 51 (Ev 617).

How many Highest powers are there? Ellen White: 3, What are their names: Father, Son an Holy Spirit.

“In the great closing work we shall meet with perplexities that we know not how to deal with, but let us not forget that the three great powers of heaven are working, that a divine hand is on the wheel, and that God will bring His purposes to pass.”—Evangelism, 65 (Manuscript 118, 1902).

How many great powers are there in heaven? Ellen White: 3

“The eternal heavenly dignitaries—God, and Christ, and the Holy Spirit—arming them [the disciples] with more than mortal energy . . would advance with them to the work and convince the world of sin.”—Evangelism, 616 (Manuscript 145, 1901).

How many heavenly dignitaries are there: 3, What are their names: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Are all 3 eternal? Ellen White: yes

“The work of salvation is not a small matter, but so vast that the highest authorities are taken hold of by the expressed faith of the human agent. The eternal Godhead—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost—is involved in the action required to make ssurance to the human agent.”—Upward Look, 148.

Who are the persons in Godhead. Ellen White mentions Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

“The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the three holy dignitaries of heaven, have declared that They will strengthen men to overcome the powers of darkness. All the facilities of heaven are pledged to those who by their baptismal vows have entered into

a covenant with God.”—5 Bible Commentary, 1110 (Manuscript 92, 1901).

How many holy dignitaries are there: 3, What are their names: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, powers infinite and omniscient, receive those who truly enter into covenant relation with God. They are present at every baptism, to receive the candidates who have renounced the world and have received Christ into the soul temple. These candidates have entered into the family of God, and their names are inscribed in the Lamb’s book of life.”—Manuscript 27, 1900

Who are infinite and Omniscient: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“The work is laid out before every soul that has acknowledged his faith in Jesus Christ by baptism, and has become a receiver of the pledge from the three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”— 6 Bible Commentary, 1074.

In what name we should receive baptism: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“The prince of the power of evil can only be held in check by the power of God in the third Person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit.”—Series A, No. 10, p. 37 (Ev 617).

Who is the THIRD PERSON of Godhead: Holy Spirit

“The three highest powers in the universe are pledged to labor with those who will seek to save the lost.”—Review, August 12, 1909.

How many highest power are there in Universe: Ellen White: 3. What are their names: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“We need to realize that the Holy Spirit, who is as much a person as God is a person, is walking through these grounds.” E.G. White, Manuscript 66, 1899. (From a talk to the students at the Avondale School.). Evangelism, p. 616.

Is Holy Spirit a person or a power or an identity given to the omnipresence of God? Ellen White: A person just like the Father.

The Holy Spirit is a person, for He beareth witness with our spirits that we are the children of God.” E.G. White, Manuscript 20, 1906. Evangelism, p. 616.

Is Holy Spirit a person or a power or an identity given to the omnipresence of God? Ellen White: A person.

Christ, our Mediator, and the Holy Spirit are constantly interceding in man’s behalf, but the Spirit pleads not for us as does Christ, who presents His blood, shed from the foundation of the world; the Spirit works upon our hearts, drawing out prayers and penitence, praise and thanksgiving. The gratitude which flows from our lips is the result of the Spirit’s striking the cords of the soul in holy memories, awakening the music of the heart. {1SM 344.1}

Jesus and Holy Spirit are two different persons

Bible tells that Jesus’s second coming won’t be secret

Did early church Fathers or protestant reformers believed in coming of Jesus will be secret?

No, this doctrine was not taught by early church Fathers and protestant reformers

Is there any biblical base for secret rapture doctrine?

Bible talks about Jesus coming unexpectedly (suddenly) without any information but there is no single Bible verse which tells that Jesus coming will be secret.

If it is not taught by early church Fathers and protestant reformers and neither it is found in the Bible then how did this come into christianity?

Protestant reformation movement believed and taught that Pope is the antiChrist. The catholic church wanted to divert this charge of Pope as antichrist by turning away the focus of antichrist into future.

Jesuit doctor of theology, Francisco Ribera, in his book Sacrum Beati Ioannis Apostoli, & Evangelistiae Apocalypsin Commentarij proposed that the prophetical periods of 1260 days, 42 months and three and half years into future and do not apply to Papacy.

(Please visit http://www.who-is-the-antichrist.org/ to understand what protestant reformers believed on AntiChrist based on
the prophetical periods of 1260 days, 42 months and three and half years)

Manuel De Lacunza (1731-1801), a Jesuit priest from Chile, also advocated futurism in his manuscript entitled La Venida del Mesias en Gloria y Magestad (“The Coming of the Messiah in Glory and Majesty”). Writing under the assumed name of Juan Josafa (Rabbi) Ben-Ezra, Lacunza hoped to obscure the fact that he was a Catholic, in order to give his book better acceptance in Protestantism. Church of Scotland minister, named Edward Irving, was influenced by this book and translated it.

John Darby, an Englishman and pioneer of the “Plymouth Brethren” movement became caught up in the rapture philosophies of Irving. When Darby heard about Irving’s activities, he traveled to Scotland to talk with Irving and his followers about the “secret rapture”. It was Darby who became the master developer of “scriptural” arguments to support the theory/doctrine that evolved.

Darby’s development of the “rapture” theory has since become widely popularized in Britain and finally in the U.S., largely as a result of Cyrus Scofield’s notes in his Scofield Reference Bible.

What manner of coming will be Jesus second coming?

secondcoming

Bible tells us that second coming of Jesus when the saints gets resurrected will be loud, noisy and the whole world including the wicked will see it. It will be an unexpected event but not a secret event. The dead in Christ will rise up on this day.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Note. 1. The day will be unexpected for the Lord comes like a thief 2. heavens shall pass away with great noise

1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Note. 1. Lord will descend with a shout and with the trump. 2. The dead in Christ shall rise first.

1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Note: 1. The trumpet will sound. Trumpet ofcourse is a very loud instrument 2. The dead in Christ will rise up.

Seventh Day Sabbath and Counterfeit Papal Sunday worship in early Christianity.

1. Who is Samuel bacchiocchii: Critics of SDA love to quote Samuel Bacchiochi a theologian who wrote on Sabbath. He claimed to be an Adventist and worked in Adventist church. He studied in a jesuit university. He wrote extensively on sabbath which invited wider audience in SDA church to believe him to be true Adventist.

In reality he is a Jesuit spy who actually attacked biblical Sabbath  He denied most of the Biblical interpretation concerning Papal Rome in the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation.

Jesuit Infilterator Exposed

From Sabbath to Sunday: The Bacchiocchi Agenda

In conclusion his writings are on authoritative Adventist stand on Sabbath. The only authoritative stand on Sabbath is writings of end time prophet Ellen White.

2. How come Papacy changed Sabbath to Sunday when Sunday observance is found in early Christianity.

Paul writes the the Papal system is working even in his time
2Th 2:7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
In early Christianity except for few apostates in Rome and Alexandria rest of the Christians were observing 7th day Sabbath.  But it is Papal Rome which enforced Sunday observance throughout Christendom.

For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the sacred mysteries on the sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome, on account of some ancient tradition, have ceased to do this. The Egyptians in the neighborhood of Alexandria, and the inhabitants of Thebais, hold their religious assemblies on the sabbath, but do not participate of the mysteries in the manner usual among Christians in general: for after having eaten and satisfied themselves with food of all kinds, in the evening making their offerings they partake of the mysteries.—The Ecclesiastical History of Socrates Scholasticus, bk. 5, ch. 22.

. . . it so happened that all the senators came to the church to visit him on the sabbath day . . . .—Ibid., bk. 7, ch. 48.

The people of Constantinople, and almost everywhere, assemble together on the Sabbath, as well as on the first day of the week, which custom is never observed at Rome or at Alexandria. There are several cities and villages in Egypt where, contrary to the usage established elsewhere, the people meet together on Sabbath evenings, and, although they have dined previously, partake of the mysteries.—The Ecclesiastical History of Sozomen, bk. 7, ch. 19.

Analysis of Common Quotations from The Church “Fathers” Concerning the Lord’s Day

The first true and clear reference to Sun-day worship was around 150 A.D. by Justin Martyr (over a century after Jesus’ death and about 1/2 century after John died). Justin used the expression Ηλίου λεγομένη ἡμέρᾳ which literally means “Helios said (called) day” (Helios was a Greek sun god). Most of the Protestant, Orthodox, or Roman Catholic faiths, if they studied Justin, would conclude that Justin made many statements that are heretical and that he admitted he did not care to associate with Christians who he felt retained Jewish practices

Some have claimed that the Didache and Ignatius both enjoined Sunday, but this is not true. The original Greek simply does not support this conclusion

The 17th century historian William Cave reported that the early Christians, both Jews and those in Asia Minor, kept the Sabbath. Notice his report:

…the Sabbath or Saturday (for so the word sabbatum is constantly used in the writings of the fathers, when speaking of it as it relates to Christians) was held by them in great veneration, and especially in the Eastern parts honoured with all the public solemnities of religion. For which we are to know, that the gospel in those parts mainly prevailing amongst the Jews, they being generally the first converts to the Christian faith, they still retained a mighty reverence for the Mosaic institutions, and especially for the sabbath, as that which had been appointed by God himself, (as the memorial of his rest from the week of creation,) settled by their great master Moses, and celebrated by their ancestors for so many ages, as the solemn day of their public worship, and were therefore very loth that it should be wholly antiquated and laid aside. For this reason it seemed good to the prudence of those times, (as in others of the Jewish rites, so in this,) to indulge the humour of that people, and to keep the sabbath as a day for religious offices. Hence they usually had most parts of the divine service performed upon that day; they met together for public prayers, for reading the scriptures, celebration of the sacraments, and such like duties. This is plain, not only from some passages in Ignatius and Clemens’s Constitutions, but from writers of more unquestionable credit and authority. Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria, tells us, that they assembled on Saturdays, not that they were infected with Judaism, but only to worship Jesus Christ, the Lord of the sabbath (Cave William, D.D. Primitive Christianity: or the Religion of the Ancient Christians in the First Ages of the Gospel. 1840 edition revised by H. Cary. Oxford, London, pp. 84-85).

Polycarp kept the Sabbath:
I will give the narration in order, thus coming down to the history of the blessed Polycarp…
And on the sabbath, when prayer had been made long time on bended knee, he, as was his custom, got up to read; and every eye was fixed upon him…
And on the following sabbath he said; ‘Hear ye my exhortation, beloved children of God. I adjured you when the bishops were present, and now again I exhort you all to walk decorously and worthily in the way of the Lord, knowing that, when I was in the ministry of the presbyters, I applied so great diligence according to my power, and shall do this the more now when the greatest peril awaits me if I am negligent. For after the fear of the judgment, it were shameful to abate and relax anything having regard to men, and not rather to build up higher the zeal which has reached thus far. It pertaineth to you therefore to hold back from all unruliness, both men and women; and let no one imagine that I exact punishment from offenders not from conscientiousness but from human pride. For it has happened that some of those who were put into offices, when they ought all the more, as one might say, to strain every nerve in the race, just then relax their efforts, forgetting that, the greater honour a man appeareth to receive, the greater the loyalty which he ought to pay towards the Master, and to remember the words of the Lord how He himself said, On whom I conferred the more, from him let them demand the more abundantly in return; and the parable of those who had the talents committed to them, and the blessing pronounced upon the servant that watches, and the reproof of those who refused to come to the marriage feast, and the condemnation of him whose garment was not befitting the marriage festivity, and the entering in of the wise virgins, the saying Watch ye, and again Be ye ready, Let not your hearts be weighed down, the new commandment concerning love one towards another, His advent suddenly manifest as of rapid lightning, the great judgment by fire, the eternal life, His immortal kingdom. And all things whatsoever being taught of God ye know, when ye search the inspired Scriptures, engrave with the pen of the Holy Spirit on your hearts, that the commandments may abide in you indelible.’
Thus speaking in this way from time to time, and being persistent in his teaching, he edified and saved both himself and his hearers. (Pionius, Life of Polycarp (1889) from J. B. Lightfoot, The Apostolic Fathers, vol. 3.2, pp.488-506)

J. F. Coltheart put the following citations together which shows that scholars do understand that early Christians and others did in fact keep the seventh-day sabbath:
EARLY CHRISTIANS
“The primitive Christians had a great veneration for the Sabbath, and spent the day in devotion and sermons. And it is not to be doubted but they derived this practice from the Apostles themselves, as appears by several scriptures to that purpose.” Dialogues on the Lord’s Day, p. 189. London: 1701, by Dr. T.H. Morer.
EARLY CHRISTIANS
“. . . The Sabbath was a strong tie which united them with the life of the whole people, and in keeping the Sabbath holy they followed not only the example but also the command of Jesus.” Geschichte des Sonntags, pp. 13, 14.
2ND CENTURY CHRISTIANS
The Gentile Christians observed also the Sabbath. Gieseler’s Church History, Vol. 1, ch. 2, par. 30, p. 93.
EARLY CHRISTIANS
“The primitive Christians did keep the Sabbath of the Jews . . . therefore the Christians, for a long time together, did keep their conventions upon the Sabbath, in which some portions of the law were read: and this continued till the time of the Laodicean council.” The Whole Works of Jeremy Taylor, Vol. IX, p. 416 (R. Heber’s Edition, Vol. XII, p. 416)…
EGYPT (OXYRHYNCHUS PAPYRUS – 200-250 A.D.)
“Except ye make the Sabbath a real Sabbath [sabbatize the Sabbath, Greek], ye shall not see the father.” The Oxyrhynchus Papyri, pt. L, p. 3, Logion 2, verse 4-11 (London: Offices of the Egypt Exploration Fund, 1898)…
EARLY CHRISTIANS
“The seventh-day Sabbath was . . . solemnised by Christ, the Apostles, and the primitive Christians, till the Laodicean Council did in a manner quite abolish the observations of it.” Dissertation on the Lord’s Day, pp. 33, 34, 44…
SPAIN – Council Elvira (A.D. 305)
Canon 26 of the Council of Elvira reveals that the Church of Spain at that time kept Saturday, the seventh day. “As to fasting every Sabbath: Resolved, that the error be corrected of fasting every Sabbath.” This resolution of the council is in direct opposition to the policy the church at Rome had inaugurated, that of commanding Sabbath as a fast day in order to humiliate it and make it repugnant to the people…
PERSIA – A.D. 335-375
“They despise our sun god. Did not Zoroaster, the sainted founder of our divine beliefs, institute Sunday one thousand years ago in honour of the sun and supplant the Sabbath of the Old Testament. Yet these Christians have divine services on Saturday.” O’Leary, The Syriac Church and Fathers, pp. 83, 84. (Coltheart JF. The Sabbath of God Through the Centuries. Leaves-of-Autumn Books, Inc. Genesis 1-2-3 and Seventh Day Adventism

The first three chapters are sufficient to teach most Bible doctrines.

1. Marriage – is between one man and one woman

Gen 2:24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Also read: https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/2012/08/25/does-god-approve-pre-marital-sex/

2. Hell – If you break commandment of God you will die (note God didnt say that the day you eat the fruit you will be put into hell and burn forever)

Gen 2:17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Also refer: https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/category/doctrines/hell-fire/

3. State of dead – when God breathed air into mans nostrils He became a living soul (living being). Note God didnt insert a soul into a body but breathed air.

Gen 2:7  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

“Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breaththey die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit[breath], they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.” (Psalm 104:29-30).

Also refer https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/category/doctrines/understanding-death/

4. Sabbath – God rested on the seventhday and He blessed that day and made it holy.

Gen 2:2-3  And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified itbecause that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Also refer https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/category/doctrines/sabbath/

5. Commandments – God commanded man not to eat the fruit. If you obey Gods commandment you live otherwise you die.

Gen 2:17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Also refer: https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/category/doctrines/law/

6. Vegetarian diet- God gave plants as food for man.

Gen 1:29  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to youit shall be for meat.

Isa 65:25  The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/category/ellen-white/vegetarian-diet/

7. Country living – God placed man in a beautiful garden.

https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/category/ellen-white/country-living/

Gen 2:8  And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the manwhom he had formed.

8. Sanctuary – God taught that Christ will die for  mans sin by killing the lamb after man’s sin

Gen 3:21  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

9. Righteousnes by Faith-  Man tried to clothe himself with fig leaves but God clothed man with an animals skin i.e., He taught that man cannot the nakedness of his sin by his own works but only with the righteousness of Jesus.

Gen 3:7  And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.  Gen 3:21  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

10. Sunday Law

God told Man that there will be enmity between the church and the serpent and serprent will try to destroy the seed of the woman (church)

Gen 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Rev 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

11. Trinity

Gen 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Gen 3:22  And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Which Commandments does John talks about in 1 John

Some of my non adventist brethren quote 1John 3:22-24 and say that John is not talking about the decalogue in his epistle. But a careful reading of the entire epistle shows that John is talking about the Decalogue including the 7th day Sabbath.

Apostle Paul tells us that Love is the fulfillment of the Law. Without love we cannot fulfill the law. He also tells us that to say love thy neighbour is the summary of last six commandments in the Ten Commandments.

Rom 13:8,9 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

The same thing was told by the Lawyer to the Lord as answer to his question. Luk 10:25-27 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal

life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

The first 4 commandments in the Decalogue can be summarized into “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength” and the last 6 commandments can be summmarized as “love thy neighbour as thyself”

With this in mind let us see which commandment does John refers to.

1Jn 3:22-24 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

In both verse 22,24 John uses the plural word ‘commandments’ so he not talking about only one commandment here rather more than one commandment.

From 1Jn 4:20-21 we can see that John is talking about the entire decalogue.

If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

John asks how can we love God (keep the first 4 commandments) if we do not love our neighbour (keeping last 6 commandments).

Also He writes 1Jn 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Whom does the scapegoat represent, Jesus or Satan?

The Hebrew word ‘Azazel’ which is translated as Scapegoat in the King James Version appears only once in Bible.

There are two common interpretations on whom does the scapegoat represent. One interpretation says that this ‘Azazel’ is satan and other one says that this is ‘Lord Jesus’.

The Interpretation that this is Lord Jesus can be very easily proved faulty because in Lev 16 where scapegoat is mentioned there is casting of lots done to choose the goats. One goat is chosen for ‘Lord’ and other was chosen for ‘Azazel’.

There is a clear distinction between the two goats as only one is chosen for Lord and other one is not. This is opposed to choosing both the sacrificial birds for Lord in Lev 14. Lev. 14:4-7 where two birds used in cleansing of leper, one is killed and other one is freed after dipping into the blood of the slain bird. Here there is no casting of lots done to distinguish the birds.

The interpretation which says that scapegoat represent Jesus is very much faulty by teaching that the goat chosen for Lord and one not chosen for Lord both represent Lord.

The word Azazel translated as scapegoat is used in ancient languages like Hebrew, Syriac and Arabic to represent the fallen Angel or demon.

For example the pseudocrypa book of Enoch (dating 1-2 centuries prior to Jesus) says that Azazel is the leader of angels which made man to make weapons. The book tells that this angel was cast into darkness. 13th century rabbi, Nahmanides, argued that Azazel is one of the leaders of a class of demon known as the Se’irim

In Syriac Azzail is the “angel (strong one) who revolted.”

In Arabic (Azazil in Islam)

Azazil (Arabic: عزازل ‘Azāzīl) does not feature in the Qur’an, but is said to be the original name of Iblis, or Satan. Iblis was the Jinn (or spirit) who worshiped Allah (God) from amongst the ranks of the angels. He denied Allah’s command to bow down before Adam and later tempted Adam to eat from the forbidden tree. He made a promise to tempt mankind into sin and lead them all astray – those who are heedless of the signs of Allah (God). The word Iblis means “to despair” and Azazil despaired of the Mercy of God, thus earning him that title.

Ibn Abbas said and Ibn Masoud and some companions :that Iblis was the main chief between Angels in the 1st sky close to the earth and Ibn Abbas said: Iblis name was Azazel عزازيل then Allah change him to Satan as the story mentioned in The Quran.(from book of prophets stories for Ibn Kathiir).

The Quran does mention the story of two angels Harut and Marut, who were confined within the land of Babylon, teaching magic and other forbidden knowledge to those who seek such knowledge. As a request for dispensing any such information, they were required to declare that they were only there for the trial of men who inquired for knowledge of magic; anything they have taught (magic) can only harm and not profit the student at all. The Quran also mention some underlying correlation with the king Sulaiman (Solomon) without elaborating furthermore. There is no mention of any penalty for the actions of the two angels, although the penalty mentioned for magic is the same as that for being a disbeliever in God, namely everlasting hellfire.

Azazil is referenced as another name for Iblis in the Tawasin, the collection by the 10th Century Sufi writer and martyr, Mansur Al-Hallaj. Chapter Six of that writing is dedicated to the self-defence of Iblis, and in one section, Hallaj explains how each of the letters of Azazil’s name relate to his personality

Early Christianity

Origen (184/185 – 253/254AD) an early church Father identifies Azazel with Satan.

I am not using the above sources as evidence for teaching that Azazel is Satan but I am using them as source to show how Azazel was considered as Satan in olden times.

The main argument for believing that Azazel is Satan is from Bible. The main argument being in Leviticus the goats were chosen by casting of lots between Lord and Azazel (not Lord). If one is for Lord the other can only be for an opposing force ‘Satan’.

The meaning of Azazel is ‘departed’. How does Satan fit this ceremony of day of atonement? The whole ceremonial law with its feasts is the shadow of sacrificial priestly work of Jesus. It tells us how the plan of salvation/redemption works. When Job reasons with God asking why he suffered, God answers him using a mythical character Leviathon (Job 41:1) which is none other than satan (Isa 27:1). God tells Job that Satan caused all this. Could it be possible that God uses the mythical word ‘Azazel’ to tell humans that Satan will be held responsible for causing all men to sin?

The ceremony on the Day of atonement happens as below.

Lev 16:7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. Lev 16:8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat. Lev 16:9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD’S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. Lev 16:10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness. Lev 16:18 And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about. Lev 16:19 And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel. Lev 16:20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat: Lev 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their

transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness: Lev 16:22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

Note in verse 20-22 the scapegoat comes into picture only after cleaning of sanctuary is done (v20), Priest charges the scapegoat with all the sins of the people(v21) this cannot be Jesus because Jesus bore our iniquities before our sins were cleansed from heavenly sanctuary.

Act 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Also refer my article on Investigative judgement.)

We see in Revelation 20 that Satan is lead into a land not inhabited for 1000 years (that is after all saints go to heaven and the wicked are completely dead). Also Satan is burned for ages and ages before he finally consumed by fire. The reason why Satan burns for longer duration is because he has to suffer punishment for causing others to sin.

Day of atonement is not only the day of cleansing but also a day of Judgement. The plan of redemption is not only to put an end to sin and redeem the saints but also to punish the wicked especially Satan for sin.

A question to non trinity believers

A simple reasoning

According to non trinitarians Jesus came after the Father. So Father is the first being and Jesus is the second being in this universe.

Father claims “I am the first, and I am the last;” and Jesus also claims “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”

Is it not a lie; When Jesus being the second person in this universe and first being God the Father how can He claim that He is first like God the Father.

Also God the Father claims “beside me there is no God.”; Bible says that Jesus is God.

Where is the error here. Is it with Trinity or non trinity?

Frequently Asked Questions on Trinity

There are 4 types of doctrines on God

1. SDA and other protestant churches- Believe all 3 persons of Godhead Father, Son and Holy Ghost existed throughout eternity. They are coequal and co-eternal

2. Catholics – Believe God the Father alone existed throughout eternity; Jesus came out of Father; Holy Spirit came out of both Father and Son

3. Arians like Jehovah Witnesses – Believe that God the Father alone existed throughout eternity; Jesus Christ is the first creation of God and Holy Spirit is the Power of God.

4. Semi – Arians like WCG, CLG – Believe that Jesus came out of Father and Holy Spirit is another form of Jesus.

I have tried to cover most of the questions on trinity. Will try to add more questions and answers on this topic.

1. Is Jesus equal with God?

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped (something which has to be possessed), but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross! ! Phil 2:6-8 NIV (1984 edition) Emphasis by me

Paul tells that Jesus left His equality with God and humbled Himself to a lower position

2. Is not Jesus came out of Father because Bible calls Him as begotten?

God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Acts 13:33

The word begotten does n’t necessarily mean ‘gave birth to’. Paul says that Jesus was begotten in that he hath raised up Jesus. For the plan of salvation Jesus, the second person in the Godhead, offered Himself to die as penalty for Sin. It is decided that God will raise up Jesus after His death; in this Jesus was begotten by God as His Son.

Paul didn’t gave birth to anyone but see how he uses the word begotten

For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 1 Cor 4:15

I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: Phi 1:4

The proclamation in Heb 1:5 shows that Jesus and God existed without the Father and Son relationship before God announced Jesus that He will be His Son.

For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? Heb 1:5

3. Is not Bible call Jesus as the only begotten son of God. When Jesus is the only person whom God gave birth to and rest were created?

By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son Heb 11:17

Isaac is called as the only begotten son of Abraham when Abraham had another son.

4. Is not Jesus the first born of all creatures?

if you see verses like James 1:18 tells us that the firstfruit among someone need not be the literal first person it can be the best among them.

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. James 1:18

Another example is when 144000 are called the firstfruits among saved.

These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. Revelation 14:4

Now if we take the firstfruits to be literal first persons the above passages will give us a contradiction.

Few more examples is when David is called as firstborn among Kings. Psa 89:27 Here the firstborn does not mean that the firstperson who was born as king.

Jesus is called as first born among creatures in col 1:15; does that mean he is the first ‘born’ creation no instead both the passages tell us that they are the best. David among Kings and Jesus among all beings.

After arriving at the conclusion that the firstfruit and firstborn can be the best instead of literal first person let us read

All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine, and of the wheat, the firstfruits of them which they shall offer unto the LORD, them have I given thee. Numbers 18:12

Here the best of the oil, the best of the vine and of the wheat are called the first fruits.

Even though Moses Jud 9 and 24 elders Mat 27:52, 53 had resurrected before Jesus; Jesus is the first fruit among them because he is the best.

5. Why He is considered as a creature in Col 1:15

The reason being; He became a created being; From someone equal with God; He created Himself to be a humble being.

We know from John 1:3 that Jesus created Himself.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3

All created things are created by him; There is no created thing which is not created by him. If Jesus is a created being then logically according to John 1:3 Jesus created Himself.

6. Is not Jesus the beginning of creation of God (Rev 3:14) ?

Answer to question 5 answers question 6 also. Jesus created himself to be an Angel Michael -the first created being.

7. Is not Holy Spirit the spirit of God and not a separate being?

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Rom 8:26,27

The Holy Spirit makes intercession for the saints and God hears what the Spirit is praying for He (Spirit) makes intercession according to the will of God.

8. Does not Bible refer the Father alone as God?

It does always refer Father as God. It is because the triune Godhead foresaw the rise of sin and decided to put forth the plan of redemption. Sin is the transgression of God’s law. God’s law is expression of His Character. Opposite to God’s character is evil. Sin is evil. The plan of redemption is this. God made universal law which is the expression of His character. As long as the created beings reflect His character of love there will be universal peace and harmony among His subjects. When His Laws are broken then there will be chaos and sufferings. These 3 eternal beings foresaw that. So one of them became an Angel called Michael. He is the Chief of all Angels – The Archangel. He will be subject to the law and serve God and set an example to others. When other created beings see that God Himself is subject to the law and will learn how delightful and mandatory it is. The third person of Godhead will work from the heart of create beings and help them to obey the law and reflect God’s character. He will be the representative of Godhead among living beings. Christ will be the representative of living beings in the Godhead.

Psalms 2 teaches us this

1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

(It talks about the rise of sin)

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

(It talks about the plan of salvation made)

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

(The plan of salvation is made and Jesus was begotten as son for the plan of Salvation. Jesus will die as penalty: and God would raise Jesus from dead. Also refer question # 2)

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

(Holy Spirit speaking here; This speaks of the role of Holy Spirit; He brings people to God and warn them of Judgement)

9. Did not Isaiah tells that besides God there is no other God?

If you use that statement to teach that Jesus is not God then we will be contradicting lot of other statements. For example John 1:1 says that Jesus is God. In Isa 43 the Godhead is speaking for themselves addressing with the common name Jehovah.

In Isaiah God claims that “I am the first, and I am the last;” and Jesus also claims “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”

10. How do we know that there 3 persons in Godhead?

2 cor 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

Matthew 28 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the… Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Matthew 3 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

1 John 5 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.(Is it true that 1 John 5:7 is not in any Greek manuscript before the 1600s? If it is true, why is it there in the King James Bible? (Check: http://www.chick.com/ask/articles/1john57.asp)

11. Did not Jesus promise to return as another comforter which is Holy Spirit. It is Jesus Himself who came since He promised to return?

John 14 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (Jesus is a comforter and He is sending another comforter)

John 16 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. .. 13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear [from Father] , that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. (Holy Spirit takes from Jesus and speaks)

Jesus said when His discplies saw Jesus they saw the Father similiarly Jesus abides with us through the third person of Godhead – Holy Spirit who is His representative. That is why He is called as the Spirit of Jesus.

The History of Jehovah Witnesses

The below history is taken from the book “Our Friends: The Jehovah Witnesses”

*1874. Pastor Russell and his group of Bible Students are disappointed when Christ did not return as expected.

*1878. They are again disappointed when the Resurrection does not take place but then teach that both events did take place – but were invisible.

1879. Zion’s Watchtower and Herald of Christ’s Presence commenced to teach these new found ‘truths’.

1886. First volume of the Millennial Dawn series published. Later called Studies in the Scriptures.

*1914. Armageddon and the End of the World does not take place nor any of the other events as foretold.

*1915. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob etc. are not resurrected as predicted.

1916. Pastor Russell dies and is succeeded as president by Judge J.F. Rutherford.

1917. The Finished Mystery confirms the *1874 and *1878 dates. It foretells the *1918, *1920 and *1925 dates.

*1918. Christendom and its churches were not destroyed as foretold.

*1920. The republics did not disappear as had been foretold.

Millions Now Living Will Never Die, foretells the resurrection in * 1925 of Abraham and the Princes of old.

1924. The Way to Paradise foretells how after* 1925 people can call up Abraham in Jerusalem and apply to have their loved ones resurrected.

*1925. It had prophesied that in 1925 theKingdom would be set up on the earthand Abraham, Isaac and Jacob etc.would be resurrected to administer it. The mansion “Beth Sarim” (shown in the above picture) was built in California for them to occupy eventhough the book The Way to Paradisep. 225 had described how Abraham would live. None of the foretold events come to pass.

1928. The pyramid prophecies condemned

(During the decade well over 100 teachings of “truth” have been discarded or altered.)

1929. Beth Sarim is built.

1931. The name Jehovah’s Witnesses adopted.

1935. Vaccinations condemned.

1942. Rutherford dies in Beth Sarirn. N. H. Knorr becomes president.

1945. Blood transfusions begin to be condemned.

1950. THE NEW WORLD BIBLE

The first edition of the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures appeared in 1950. It was the work of their own Translation Committee. Only one, Fred Franz, had sufficient knowledge of the Bible languages to attempt a translation of this kind. He had studied Greek for two years but was only self taught in Hebrew.

They used the master Greek text of Westcott and Hort which is based on only 5% of the manuscripts which included the Vaticanus and Sinaticus. These two corrupted manuscripts commissioned by Constantine leave out thousands of words and whole clauses. They contained the Aprocrapha which supports prayers for the dead.

Westcott and Hort did not believe in teachings such as Creation, Heaven, the Second Coming, miracles or inviting people to receive Christ as Savior.

On the other hand they believed in Mary worship, prayers for the dead, purgatory, communism, in contacting demons, and decided between variant readings on the basis of their “inner consciousness”.

The New World Bible is described as a “biased” translation. (And not original manuscripts as many believe)

1952. Vaccinations are now allowed, but not blood transfusions.

1966. Baptisms are at an all time low so the new date of *1975 is set for the End.

1967. Organ transplants are termed “cannibalism” and forbidden.

1969. The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures. It reveals many contradictions and errors in the New World Bible.

1972. April 1, Watchtower, claims the Watchtower Society is Jehovah’s Prophet.

*1975. “The wicked world’s end” does not come as expected.

1977. N. H. Knorr dies after witnessing the devastating effect of the *1975 date failure. He is succeeded by Frederick W. Franz.

1978. The Society suffers a -1.4% membership loss as a result of *1975.

1980. Organ transplants allowed.

1983. Raymond Franz writes Crisis of Conscience. It destroys faith in the organization, as it reveals many ‘inside’ problems and errors.

THE 1914 GENERATION

For many years the Watchtower Society taught Armageddon would occur within a generation of 1914. The following illustration was often used in its publications: Some of the people of 1914 will live to see the end

1984. The Watchtower, May 15 has an article, 1914 – The Generation That Will Not Pass Away. It is still teaching that the End will come within a generation from 1914.

1989. You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth (1989 ed.) page 154, has this illustration: People of 1914 will see the end.

1995 The 1914 Generation are now over 80 years of age. The Biblical “lifetime” – (not merely “generation”) of “threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years…” (Psalms 90:10) had now been exceeded. Again the Society is in trouble. So in The Watchtower, November 1, page 17, it announced: “…the term ‘generation’ as used by Jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historical period…”

1996. With this new “truth” the urgency of the generation limitation was gone and worldwide service hours dropped this year by 10 million.

2001. Membership increase only 1.7%. Service figures the lowest in years.

2002. Many European countries reporting losses.

2003. Only 258,845 baptised. This is the lowest figure for 15 years.

Forgotten truths from Genesis 2 account of Sabbath.

“Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” says God blessed the 7th day and sanctified it (set is apart for holy purpose) after he had rested from all his work. We can say that He sanctified the day and blessed it on the 1st day of 2nd week.

If the 7th day is not going to be a day of worship and a holy day then there is no real meaning of sanctifying and blessing it after He had rested on that day.

Sabbath was made for mankind Mark 2:27 as a sign of creation. That is why we have 130plus cultures where the 7th day is called as Sabbath.

Also there are cultures where they have kept Sabbath historically without any relationship to Bible. For example Nepal’s national holiday is saturday. In India there is a scheduled tribe which has no connection to the outside world and they keep every 7thday as holy day.

According to reliable estimates, Africa has the world’s largest concentration of Sabbath-keepers, some 20 million people, of which only about three million are Seventh Day Adventists. The Sabbath is natural to Africans. The Sabbath is thriving in Africa because the Sabbath roots of Africa run deep, both in Scripture, and historical practice.

W. W. Oliphant, an African church leader in the early years of the twentieth century says that the “Sabbath in Ethiopia [has] been kept from the days of Nimrod, about 2140 B.C. (read Gen. 10:8, 10), that is 700 years before the birth of Moses. . . . Africans or Ethiopians had been Sabbath observers from the days of Nimrod” (Quoted in Bradford C.E. Sabbath Roots, The African Connection. L. Brown and Sons, Barre (VT), 1999, p. 26).

In Ethiopia in the fourth century, Frumentius reported:

“And we assemble on Saturday,” he continues ; “not that we are infected with Judaism, but to worship Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath” (Davis, Tamar. A General History of the Sabbatarian Churches. 1851; Reprinted 1995 by Commonwealth Publishing, Salt Lake City, pp. 41-42).

Notice some of the statements by Ethiopian Emperor Galawdewos (A.D. 1540-1559):

We do celebrate the Sabbath, because God, after He had finished the Creation of the World, rested thereon…and that especially, since Christ came not to dissolve the law but to fulfill it. It is therefore not in the imitation of the Jews, but in obedience to Christ, and His holy apostles, that we observe that day (Quoted in Bradford C.E. Sabbath Roots, The African Connection. L. Brown and Sons, Barre (VT), 1999, p. 26).

When God gave the 4th commandment He points to the creation account as a reason for keeping the 7th day Holy.

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.  Exo 20:11.

Can you see something interesting.. man takes rest after working in the day. Work comes first and a rest follows. Similarly we work throughout the week and rest in the end. I want you to seriously think this. If there was no sabbath until Sinai (as people teach) then man would have worked throughout the week without rest.

It is great thing for God to have created Sabbath isn’t it. So man can work and take rest also.

The great Planner planned it in that way. If God has not created sabbath there would have been no harmony on which day man would have gathered to worship. Each would have preferred a day for worshiping God. I am not talking about the personal devotion with God but the gathering of people to worship.

Luke recognized the 7th day as sabbath day because though he is gentile he always refer to it as sabbath day rather than calling it as Saturday (in his language). [it is ironical to see a non observer of sabbath for example a Baptist to refer Saturday as sabbath. He would refer it as Saturday. Only a sabbath keeper would prefer to refer it as sabbath instead of Saturday]

John says that he was in spirit on the Lord’s day. The only day Bible ever recognizes as Lord’s day is Sabbath.

Sabbath will be the sign of creation and a day of rest even in the new heaven and new earth. Isa 66:22,23

Sabbath in the new covenant.

Those who advocate any day worship or Sunday worship should consider these facts. ( I am not against worshiping God on non sabbath days but I want to affirm that besides worshiping God on all the days we need to rest on His Holy day).

The primary argument for not keeping sabbath is “we are under new covenant”.

The new covenant was ratified by the blood of Jesus at His death.

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:28

Bible tells us that the disciples of Jesus kept Sabbath after after they entered into the new covenant.

And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.  And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. Luke 23: 54-56.

Also Sunday, the day of resurrection, cannot be the day of worship for the new covenant. We know that after a covenant is ratified we cannot add anything to the new covenant. Since the new covenant was ratified 2 days prior to the day of resurrection Sunday cannot be added to the new covenant as the day of worship.

Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. Gal 3:15

Another evidence that Sabbath was still part of new covenant.

And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. Acts 13:42,44. The day Paul chose to gather ‘gentiles’ to share the gospel was on Sabbath. If Paul didn’t observe sabbath he could have asked them to come the next day or any other day in the week. He would have preferred not to ‘judaize’ the gentiles by gathering them on sabbath to share the gospel.

We should also note that Luke recognized the 7th day as sabbath day  though he is gentile he always refer to it as sabbath day rather than calling it as Saturday (in his language).[ If Luke was not observing Sabbath then it would be ironical to see a non observer of sabbath for example a Baptist to refer Saturday as sabbath.

We don’t keep sabbath to earn salvation but as obedience. Obedience is not legalism. Jesus says if you love me keep my commandments.

Sabbath before Old covenant (before Sinai)

We find that Abraham and Jacob paid tithe. But nowhere it is found in Bible that God commanded man to give tithe before Sinai. So we can only conclude that there was a knowledge of tithe but an explicit commandment to give tithe was not recorded. Similarly the events related to Sabbath and commandments for keeping sabbath are not recorded but we can conclude its existence and commandment to keep it prior to Sinai through these events and verses.

Gen 2 tells us that God blessed and sanctified (set is apart for holy purpose) because in that day He rested. He rested then He blessed that day and sanctified it. What is the purpose of God blessing and sanctifying a day which is already past? It is only because God wanted that day to be observed as Sabbath by humans. When God gave the 4th commandment He gives the creation as the reason for keeping Sabbath. He tells Israelites that God blessed that day and sanctified it. So they need to keep the Sabbath Holy.

And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. Gen 16:23

A very very key verse in understanding the sabbath existed even before Sinai. The Old covenant was declared and ratified in Sinai but Israelites were keeping sabbath even before the covenant was ratified. It only shows that Sabbath was not a new thing which was introduced in the old covenant but something which was existing and kept but forgotten.

Another key evidence is 130 plus cultures have named the 7th day as sabbath. It again shows Sabbath is something which was existing and kept but forgotten.

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Gen 16:5

Amazing truth about Michael the Arch Angel

Introduction

Michael is one of the angels whose name is given in the Bible. Lucifer and Gabriel are other the two angels whose name is given.

Michael is called the prince of Daniel. Daniel 10:21. There are many interpretations given by theologians to understand why Michael is called the Prince of God’s people.

“At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people–everyone whose name is found written in the book–will be delivered. Daniel 12:1 NIV (Emphasis by me)

Why Michael is referred as the one who protects God’s people.

Jacob also talks about an Angel who redeemed him from all troubles.

The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. Genesis 48:16 KJV (emphasis by me). Note that ‘A’ in Angel is in uppercase.

Jacob is praying that ‘this Angel’ should bless the lads.

This Angel could be none other than Michael the great prince who protects God’s people (Dan 12:1)

An angel who was worshipped

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant? And the captain of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua,Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so. Joshua 5:13-15

This angel accepts worship unlike other angels who warned humans not to worship them. Rev 22:8,9

Who is this angel who accepts worship

An Angel who was referred as God.

And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I. And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee. I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred. (Gen. 31:11-13) Emphasis supplied.

And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. (Gen. 32:27-30)

Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us. (Hos. 12:4)

Jacob said he wrestled with God, but Hosea said he wrestled with the “Angel.” They must be one and the same.

Who is this angel whom Bible refers as God.

An Angel who address Himself as Jehovah

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. (Ex. 3:2-4)

And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you. And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. (Jdg. 2:1-3)

Again we have an “Angel” speaking as if He is God, this time to quite a few people all at once.

And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. . . . This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. . . . This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us. (Acts 7:30, 35, 38)

Moses spoke with an Angel in mount Sinai. Is not it with God Moses spoke in Mount Sinai.

And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. . . . And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. (Gen. 22:11, 12, 15-18)

Is it God speaking here or an Angel?

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? (Gen. 16:9-13)

And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is. Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation. (Gen. 21:17, 18)

And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, And said, My LORD, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: Gen 18:1-3

Twice we have the “Angel” of the LORD speaking to Hagar as if He Himself is the Lord.

Of the 3 men who visited Abraham one is Lord.

And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; 8Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. Gen 18:16-22

Who is this Angel who is called Jehovah and addresses as God.

Bible Calls both Jesus and John the Baptist as angels

Behold, I will send my messenger [mal’ak, the Hebrew word for “angel”], and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger [again, the Hebrew word is mal’ak] of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. (Mal. 3:1-3)

For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. (Mat. 11:10, 11)

As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. (Mark 1:2)

He began to speak unto the people concerning John. . . . This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. (Luke 7:24, 27)

Jesus Christ is the Chief Messenger (Arch Angel) of the Triune Godhead or Trinity.

The Hebrew word malak (found 103 times in the OT) simply means “messenger”,” and hence employed to denote any agent God sends forth to execute his purposes. It is used of an ordinary messenger (Job 1:14: 1 Sam. 11:3; Luk 7:24; 9:52), of prophets (Isa 42:19; Hag 1:13), of priests (Mal 2:7), and ministers of the New Testament (Rev 1:20).

Is Jesus and Michael are the same person

Paul says that Jesus will come with the voice of the Arch Angel “The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (1 Thessalonians 4:16).”

Moreover the meaning of the Michael is “One who is like God”. Bible tells us that Jesus is the one who is like God.

Hebrews 1: . . .”3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being

phi 2:6Who, being in the form of God,

Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Conclusion

Michael is not a created being; but just another name of Christ, the second person of Godhead a.k.a Trinity. PreIncarnate Jesus assumed the role of the chief messenger (Arch Angel) of the God head.

Objections:

=======

1. Michael is just one of the chief princes. If it is Lord then He cant be just one of the chief princes.

But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Dan 10:13

Youngs Literal Translation translated Dan 10:13 like this

“‘And the head of the kingdom of Persia is standing over-against me twenty and one days, and lo,Michael, first of the chief heads, hath come in to help me, and I have remained there near the kings of Persia”

Michael is not just one of the chief princes but first of the chief princes.

2. By saying that Michael and Jesus are the same person you are saying that Jesus is a created being

Jesus Christ is not a created being but the creator of all things.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3

Jesus Christ incarnated Himself to be a man that does not make Him as a human. He is the creator God who made Himself as the Chief Messenger of God Head a.k.a Trinity

Blessed Millennium- Is it in earth or in Heaven?

The only place we read about the Blessed Millenium is in Rev 20.

Let us do a verse by verse analysis to find where this millennium will be.

Verse 4 : And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Verse 4 tells us that the righteous will reign with Christ for 1000 years.

Verse 5: But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Verse 5 tells us that those who take part in the first resurrection will be the ones who reign with Jesus. Also it tells us that the wicked will be dead during the 1000 years.

verse 6: Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Verse 6 tells us that there will be a second death to the wicked. But the righteous who took part in first resurrection will reign with Jesus.

Verse 7-9,14: And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

At the end of 1000 years there is a second resurrection where the wicked are resurrected to be punished with fire and the fire from heaven devours them. And this is called the second death.

So there are 2 deaths and 2 resurrections.

First death: For both Righteous and Wicked.

First Resurrection: Only for righteous

Second Resurrection: For the Wicked

Second Death: For the wicked.

To understand where the millennium will be we need to read 1 Thes 5: 16,17

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Those who take part in first resurrection and those who are transformed alive will be caught up together with Jesus in the clouds and will be ever with the Lord.

The millennium will be in Heaven.

John 14:2,3 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

When the saints are in heaven the earth will be desolate without any living creature except Satan.

Rev 20: 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 7And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

“I beheld the earth, and lo, it was without form and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce anger” (Jeremiah 4:23 -26)

This “great day of the Lord” will come “as a destruction from the Almighty” (Joel 1:15). “And the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be as dung upon the ground” (Jeremiah 25:33).

At the end of 1000 years the new Jerusalem descend from heaven along with the saints

Rev 21: 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

It is this city after descending Satan tried to conquer

Rev 20:9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them

Conclusion: The millennium will be in heaven but after 1000 years we will come back to the ‘New Earth”

Who are 144000?

First we will see what Bible says on this topic and then we will end with Spirit of Prophecy quotes supporting it.

The book of Revelation chapter 6 ends with a serious question. The question is verse 17 “For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”

Who will be able to stand the wrath of God as described in the previous verses 14-16 ” And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ” Psa_76:7, Psa_130:3-4; Joe_2:11; Mal_3:2

The describing of hurting of the earth is further continued in Rev 7. It tells the hurting won’t start until the 144000 is sealed.

And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Once the 144000 is sealed the wrath of God is poured upon the earth.

Who are these 144000 and why God seals them before pouring of the wrath of God?

Rev 14 tells us the characteristics of these 144000.

And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God. Rev 14:1,3-5

i) The 144000 had a unique experience which no other human had and they sing this experience as a song which no other man could learn. For only they had this experience.

ii) They are faultless before the throne of God i.e., they are without sin

iii) They perfectly reproduce the character of Jesus.

iv) Once 144000 is sealed the wrath of God falls on this earth

v) Only 144000 is able to stand the wrath of God.

The sealing of 144000 starts the wrath the God; The beginning of wrath of God on wicked man also signifies the end of probation for mankind.

Rev 15 tells that Jesus ends his intercessory ministry in the sanctuary which signifies the end of probabtion for mankind.

” And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever. And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.” Rev 15:7,8

Also Rev 22 tells of a period of time when no human could repent of his sins anymore

“He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” Rev 22:11

Why God raises this 144000?

After satan overcame man God promised that the seed of the woman (The Church) will bruise Satans head.

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Gen 3:15

Christ lived a sinless life and died as the penalty for the sins of human race. Paul says that God will bruise satans head under the feet of the saints in future.

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly Rom 16:20

God will bruise Satans head by preparing a people for Him (14400) who will live a sinless life under all circumstances and there by overcome Satan just like Christ overcame Him.

Spirit of Prophecy quotes on 144000 and close of probation:

Great Controversy, pages 648/ 649, “Upon the crystal sea before the throne, that sea of glass as it were mingled with fire, –so resplendent is it with the glory of Elohim, –are gathered the company that have “gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name.”[1 REV. 15:2]…. And they sing “a new song” before the throne…. it is the song of their experience,–an experience such as NO OTHER COMPANY have EVER HAD…. they have stood WITHOUT AN INTERCESSOR through the FINAL OUTPOURING of Elohim’s judgements….They have seen the earth wasted with famine and pestilence, the sun having power to scorch men with great heat.”

The seal of the living God will be placed upon those only who bear a likeness to Christ incharacter.–7BC 970 (1895).

Those who receive the seal of the living God and are protected in the time of trouble must reflect the image of Jesus fully.–EW 71 (1851).

Just before we entered it [the time of trouble], we all received the seal of the living God. Then I saw the four angels cease to hold the four winds. And I saw famine, pestilence and sword, nation rose against nation, and the whole world was in confusion.–7BC 968 (1846).

I saw angels hurrying to and fro in heaven. An angel with a writer’s inkhorn by his side returned from the earth and reported to Jesus that his work was done, and the saints were numbered and sealed. Then I saw Jesus, who had been ministering before the ark containing the ten commandments, throw down the censer. He raised His hands, and with a loud voice said, “It is done.”–EW 279 (1858).

So once the 144000 is numbered and sealed the probation closes.

Is the number 144000 symbolic or literal

In EW p279 Ellen White writes that the 144000 is numbered.

Also we see in EW p15 ““Soon we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. The LIVING SAINTS, 144,000 in number, knew and understood the voice, while the wicked thought it was thunder and an earthquake.””

Rev 7 says that 144000 from Israel and people confuse this with the nation of Israel. In Bible the seed of Abraham is the people of promise and not of genetics.

“For they [are] not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh [literal Israel], these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise [to Abraham as fulfilled in Jesus] are counted for the seed…. not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles… As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people [these]… shall they be called the children of the living Elohim.” – Rom. 9:6, 23-26.

John the Baptist says God can raise seed of Abraham from the stones.

Israel means overcomer. God will raise the 14400 among the overcomers.

In Conclusion:

“Let us strive with all the power that God has given us to be among the hundred and forty-four thousand. And let us do all that we can to help others to gain heaven.”– Review and Herald, March 9, 1905.

How long will Satan burn in Hell?

Satan will not only be burned up and devoured by fire He will also be brought to Ashes. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ASHES upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. Ezekiel 28:18 (Emphasis supplied)

Rev 20:9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. (WICKED WILL BE DEVOURED)

Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

DEVIL WILL BURN FOR AGES AND AGES UNTIL HE IS BROUGHT TO ASHES AS MENTIONED IN EZE 28:18

The greek word forever should have been translated as ages and ages.

A proper understanding of hell fire can be learned from a similar hell fire in the past.

2 Peter 2:6—”And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly.”

The fire of Sodom and Gomorrow is the example of what will happen to ungodly. Morever the Sodom and Gomorrow fire is called as ETERNAL FIRE.

Jude 7—”Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of ETERNAL FIRE.” (Emphasis supplied)

After all the other wicked burn satan burns further for ages and ages because. Eugene gives the below calculation in his book Deeper Final That the scapegoat (representing satan) bears the sins of the congregation in the Day of Atonement • That there have been an estimated 35 to 70 billion persons alive since creation • That if only 1 in 700 of 35 billion were saved at last, that would be 50 million • That if the Devil burned only two minutes for each of these persons, that would come to 190 years.

Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yes, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

Matthew 10:28—”And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Are there people alive since 1st century?

Seeing the Kingdom
Luke 9:27 says that some were standing there will not see death till the Kingdom come. Are there still people alive since He said that?? wow
Answer:
In Matthew 16: 28 Jesus says Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. Immediately after this Matthew records the incident of transfiguration.

Apostle Peter writes in 2 Peter 1:16-18  For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.  For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.  And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

Peter says that he saw the second coming on the Mount of Transfiguration.  The only way that the Transfiguration could have been like the second coming is if Elijah represented the translated saints while Moses represented the resurrected saints.

The Greek word ‘see’ should be translated as perceived.

So Apostles perceived second coming in the mount of transfiguration. There is no disciples alive today.

Parable of Richman and Lazarus

Parable of Richman and Lazarus has two dead characters talking to each other. But other Bible passages say that Dead don’t now anything and they don’t communicate. Is there any contradictions in Bible.

Please refer the the below link for verses which tells us that.

https://thegladtidings.wordpress.com/2011/05/24/problems-with-the-popular-christian-teaching-of-hell-and-death/

Bible also tells us that the Jews at the time of teaching believed in many Pagan teaching including reincarnation and eternal torture in hell.

One such example is Jews asking John whether he is the reincarnated Elijah to that John replies ‘no’ but Jesus tells us that John came with the spirit of Elijah,

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No John 1:21

And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them Matthew 17:10-12

Second event is when the disciples of Jesus asking Him about a man born blind asking whether he was born blind because of his sins(in previous birth)

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. John 9:2-3

Jesus sometimes meet them in their own ground. For example Jesus calls a gentile woman as dog (he is using the words of Jews to teach them a lesson)

Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. Matthew 15:25-26

Apostle Paul also uses a similiar style of teaching. Dead cannot be baptised since they can’t choose salvation after they die and their probation is already closed. But Paul mentions that to teach them that there is resurrection of dead.

Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? 1 Corinthians 15:29

Jesus uses the pagan teaching of eternal torture in hell to teach Jews a lesson. Remember Jesus didn’t tell them that Lazarus was righteous and he deserved Heaven. Lazarus was just a beggar who lacked any earthly pleasure (symbolizing gentiles whom jews considered as ones lacking knowledge of true God) but will be provided the gospel and inheritance as seed of Abraham (He is shown sitting in bosom of Abraham) whereas the rich man who had all pleasures (symbolizing jews who had the law and prophets) will be denied Abraham’s bosom because they didnt believe in the law and prophets.

Magnified or abolished?

The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable. Isa 42:21

Many teach that Jesus came to abolish the law. Did He?

Bible says he came to magnify the law and make it honorable.

How did He magnify it?

26Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. 27Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 21Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Matthew 5

Also it says He made it honorable.

17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:17-19

(REMEMBER WHOEVER BREAK ONE OF THESE COMMANDMENTS AND TEACH MEN TO DO SO SHALL BE CALLED THE LEAST IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD)

Some say to fulfill is to cease it from existence but please see the below verses to see how Jesus fulfills all righteousness.

13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. Matthew 3:13-15

Finally how to get eternal life:
=====================

25And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. 28And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. Luke 10:25-28

Did Christ went and preached to the Souls in Prison?

‎1 Pet 3 :19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

The above verse is used to teach that Jesus went to hell to preach to the unrepented souls.

So the above teaching gives rise to the belief that there is a chance of repentance after death (something like purgatory teaching in catholism)

Let us examine this biblically.

The passage appears to teach that Jesus went to hell to preach to unrepented souls because of CUMBERSOME TRANSLATION.

Bible says once we die the next thing is judgement there is no second chance.

Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

A parallel verse to 1 Pet 3:19 is Psalm 142:7 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.

So it does not mean Jesus preached to “spirit being without body’ which were in prison. Because David uses a similiar language ‘bring my soul out of prison’

When you are evangelizing what do you refer that to saving souls it means saving persons.

When was this preaching done which is being refered in 1 Pet 3:19, who did the preaching.

We need to study the whole passage which will give us the correct context.

18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

In verse 18 it says Jesus was put to death but he was quickened BY THE SPIRIT. We need to note this very carefully. HE WAS QUICKENED BY THE SPIRIT. It is not in the spirit but by the spirit. It is Holy Spirit who resurrected Jesus. God the Father resurrected Jesus through His Holy Spirit.

In Verse 19 it says BY WHICH (by Holy Spirit) he (Jesus) went and preached unto the spirits in prision. What is prision here Paul says “bringing me into captivity to the law of sin.” David says soul out of prision. Prison here is the captivity of sin.

Jesus preached through Holy Spirit to the souls in the prison of sin. When did He preach them. Note nowhere it says Jesus went to these spirits after He is dead and in spirit He went. But verse 20 says
when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah,

In this doc you can see that death is a period of unconciousness. For example

Eccl. 9:5,6,10 “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.Whatsoever thy hand finds to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither you go.

Psalms 6.5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

Psalms 146.4 His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

Job 14.10-15 But man dies, and wastes away: yes, man gives up the ghost, and where is he? So man lies down, and rises not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath be past, that you will appoint me a set time, and remember me! If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my
change come. Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee:

Where did the repented thief go?

Luke 23:43
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Jesus tells the repented thief that he will be in paradise. When is the question we need to find?

According to the translation it is on Friday after Jesus’ death.

But I believe the translation is wrong because of the following reasons.

Reason 1: Jesus Himself didn’t go to paradise.

Where is Paradise then.

2 Corinthians 12:2,4 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

The paradise is in third heaven. So what is third heaven, is it the same place where God the Father resides. (interestingly the evangelicals and pentecostals teach that Jesus went to hell after death) Also they teach that Paradise is under that earth.

Revelation 2:7
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Tree of life is in midst of the paradise of God.

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.  Rev 22: 2 (Paradise is the same place as new Jerusalem).

New Jerusalem is in heaven.

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Rev 21:2

Conclusion: Paradise is heaven where God is.

Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.  John 20:17.

Jesus Himself didn’t go until the third day after His death.

Reason 2: After death it is a period of sleep until the day of resurrection when people will resurrect unto eternal life or eternal damnation.

John 5:  28Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,  29And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

1 Thes 4:16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Daniel 12: 1And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be  found written in the book.  2And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee:

Job 3.11 Why died I not at birth?… For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest.

1 Thess. 4.14-17 “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which SLEEP in Jesus will God bring with him. vs. 4:13 “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.” Jesus will bring the sleeping saints home to heaven as well! He will raise them with a
shout, with the trump of God,

Acts 13.36 “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, FELL ON SLEEP, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:”

Matthew 9.24 “He said unto them (the mourners), Make room: for the maid is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn.” “For they knew she was dead.”(see also Luke 8:53)

Deut. 31:16 Moses was told he would sleep with his fathers

1 Kings 2:10 David slept with his fathers

Daniel 12:2 after a time of trouble, Michael will arise and the dead will awake from the dust of the earth

Matthew 9:24 Jesus described the dead girl as sleeping

Matthew 27:52-53 after the resurrection of Jesus, many dead saints arose from their sleep and appeared to many

John 11:11 Jesus described the death of Lazarus as a sleep

Acts 7:60 when Stephen was martyred he fell asleep

1 Cor. 15:18 Paul describes the dead as asleep until the resurrection of the
dead

Note:

Many people do not realize that the original Hebrew and Greek Manuscripts did not have any puncuation, no commas, periods etc. So the translated added the puncuation etc. based on their …own understanding of the the bible text. And in this case the text says: “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” But many bible scholars believe that the comma added after the word thee, is incorrect. There should be no comma there. Look how it reads if we remove the comma after the word thee and put it in after the word today. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee Today, shalt thou be with me in paradise. The additional scriptures you posted support and also confirms that the Lord Jesus was not telling him that he would be in paradise with him today…but rather He was saying truly I say unto you today, you will be with me in paradise.

Which Law are you talking about?

Do you know there are multiple laws in Bible? Moral Law, Ceremonial Law, Civil  Laws, Criminal laws, Health Laws, Law of Sin (Rom 7)

When Paul is talking about Law we need to see the context and identify which law he is talking about.

Gen 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

1 Cor 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Rom 7:14,22, 25

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty James 2:10 – 12

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2: 3-4

THE ABOVE VERSES TALK ABOUT THE MORAL LAW (TEN COMMANDMENTS)

Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances (ceremonies); for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

(ceremonies is added by me)

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Col 2:14, 17

The above verses talk about CEREMONIAL LAW which are shadow of ministration of Christ as sacrificial priest.

Now let us hear the wise man speaking

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  Ecc 12:13

Problems with the popular Christian teaching of Hell and Death

Problems with the popular Christian teaching of Hell and Death .

a) Does man go to Hell or heaven as soon as he dies. Bible says the eternal life or condemnation will be given only after second coming.

2And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

b) Is God a God of Love or not.

Is our God really a God of love?

If yes, then why He torments sinners for millions and millions of years without any relief?

If a sinner lives for 25 years; will a God of love and justice torment the sinner for 25 million years?

c)What is the wages for sin? What does Bible say as the wages fo sin?

Is it Death or eternal torment?

Jesus was punished on our behalf so we will not face the eternal death. The punishment He received for sins is death not torment in hell fire

If man can be burned up forever and ever then he should be immortal and possess eterlnal life already.

but Bible promises eternal life only after the day of second coming.

d) Bible tells both Satan and wicked will be destroyed forver. We will deal with the verses which appear to teach that wicked will burn forever and ever.

Rev 20:9And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

When talking about the Fate of Satan in Eze 28: 18Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.  19All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (When righteous will have eternal life the wicked will perish, i.e., cease to exist)

e) After death, The dead know nothing, they will be in a state of unconsciousness.

If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee:

f) After death, Bible calls it as a period of sleep. It is not a period of bliss or torment.

He will raise them with a shout, with the trump of God,

1 Cor. 15:18 Paul describes the dead as asleep until the resurrection of the dead

Trinity in Bible

1. 2 cor 14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

2. Matthew 28 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

4. 1 John 5 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
(Is it true that 1 John 5:7 is not in any Greek manuscript before the 1600s? If it is true, why is it there in the King James Bible?

(Check: http://www.chick.com/ask/articles/1john57.asp)

(Spirit can hear, He does not speaks of himself, that is why you don’t read much about Holy Spirit)

7. 1 cor 12 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

(The Spirit has Will )

Bible uses the word Godhead instead of trinity…

Colossians 2:9

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Romans 1:20

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Acts 17:29

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

Law and Grace – Part 1

What is Law?

for by the law is the knowledge of sin.  Rom 3:20

Romans 7:7 says I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

1 John3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Mirror points out the dirt on our face, likewise Law shows us what is sin. It gives us the knowledge of what is sin.

Why we need grace?

Romans 6: 23 says For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This is the understanding of grace…….
Wages of sin(breaking commandments) is Death. Penalty for breaking the Law is Death.

But Gods grace forgives our sin i.e., the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. grace forgives us our sin and gives a chance to repent. so we wont sin anymore i.e., we wont transgress law anymore

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
When paul says we are not under Law it means we are not under the punishment we have to face for breaking the Law.
In the very next verse paul says Romans 6: 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
Shall we break the Law(shall we sin) since we are under grace. God forbids. No.
To whom the Ten commandments (Law) is given?

First recorded in Sinai when given to Israelites but The Moral law was given to entire humanity from the beginning.

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. Gen 26: 5

‘Where no law is, there is no transgression,” “for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Rom. l:15; 3:20. If Cain didn’t have knowledge of sin which is Law he wont charged with the penalty of sin which is breaking Law. for by the law is the knowledge of sin.  Rom 3:20

Joseph feared God because He knows adultery is breaking God’s Law. From where did he learned that committing adultery is against God. Only from Law.

“Sin is the transgression of the law,” says John. “I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shall not covet.” Rom. 7:7. And what law says, “Thou shall not covet”? The Ten -Commandment law.

And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath Mark 2:27 Jesus says Sabbath was made for man He didn’t say Sabbath was made (only) for Jews.

From answers to objection by Francis F Nichol.

Objection:The very wording of the Sinaitic law proves that it was designed only for the Jews. The Ten Commandments is introduced thus: ‘I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee . . . out of the house of bondage’ (Ex. 20:2). To whom is that applicable? Only to the Israelite nation, of course.” See also Deuteronomy 4:8, Romans 9:4, and similar passages, which state specifically that the law was given only to the Israelites.
We would ask: To whom else could the Lord have given the ‘Ten Commandments? To the Egyptians, the Philistines, the Amalekites, the Hittites, the Jebusites, or any other of the many pagan peoples that cursed the earth with their unholy presence? No, you say. God could not make a revelation of Himself to any people until that people were of a mind and heart to hear Him. God found in Abraham and his descendants such a people. Accordingly He gave to them a revelation of His will and ways. Yes, He spoke exclusively that great day at Sinai to a literal people called Israelites, who had been delivered from a literal bondage in Egypt. But, we inquire again: To whom else could He have spoken?

We would further inquire: To whom was God speaking when He gave His great messages through Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, and all the mighty prophets of 0ld Testament times? The answer is, To the Israelites. The inspired messages that constitute tile Old Testament were addressed almost wholly to the Jews, and the prophets who delivered the messages were Jews. But does any lover of the Bible wish to suggest that therefore the beautiful messages of salvation in Isaiah, for example, which are so often addressed directly to Jerusalem, are not also addressed to us? We doubt not that many a Christian minister has taken for his text these typical words from Isaiah: “Cry aloud, spare not, lift tip thy voice like a trumpet, and show thy people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” Isa. 58:1. But no listener in the pew is troubled or confused or informs the preacher that the text is addressed to Jews, not Gentiles.

And who are the writers of the New Testament? With one possible exception they are all Jews. To whom did Christ address virtually all that He said while on earth? To the Jews. To whom is  the Epistle to the Hebrews addressed? Obviously, to Jews. To whom is the Epistle of James addressed?  “To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad.” James 1: 1. But does any Christian have difficulty  with these facts, or feel that any portions of the New Testament are not really for him? No.  In the objection before us, Romans 9:4 is cited. It reads as follows: “Who are Israelites; to whom pertains the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the
service of God, and the promises.” Evidently it is offered as proof because it says that “the giving of the  law” was to them. But it says more than that. The “covenants” also were given to them. Note the plural. Both the old and the new covenant! The new covenant is made with the “house of Israel, and with the house of Judah.” (Jer. 31:31; Heb. 8:8.) But does any Christian believe that the new covenant is confined to the believing Jew? No. We all claim a part in it and believe that the new covenant promise
is intended for us as well, even though the announcement of it is addressed directly, and apparently exclusively, to the Jews.  The words of Moses in Deuteronomy 4:8 are also cited. They read as follows: “And what nation is there so great, that bath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?” We would simply say that this statement is a good commentary on Romans 9:4. And we  have found that this verse in Romans proves more than the objector desires. Another inspired comment on Deuteronomy 4:8 is the statement of Christ: “Salvation is of the Jews.” John 4:22. But has any  Christian despised salvation because of this fact?
We must never forget that the revelations and admonitions of the Scriptures are not given in a vacuum. Almost always they are placed in the context of historical events and  flesh-and-blood people. The sermon on the mount has as literally a rocky platform as the address from Sinai. And the multitudes addressed in that sermon were as definitely Jewish as the hosts gathered before Sinai. Often God took occasion in giving a revelation, or invoking a certain course of conduct, to refer to some actual experience through which the listeners had passed. That is one of the marks of Bible revelations. But that fact in itself never troubles any of us, nor prevents us from believing that those counsels of  God’s Word apply to us as well.

Now, inasmuch as God worked mighty miracles to draw out of the turbulent sea of paganism a  people for Himself, how appropriate that He should place His eternal revelation to them in the context of the immediate experience that they had miraculously through. Thus they might be prompted to give that revelation maximum weight in their minds and be most diligent in obeying it. Furthermore, that historical context provides a setting that we today, who are also flesh and blood, can understand, and, understanding, be likewise prompted to greater obedience to God. Well does the Bible commentator  Murphy observe on Exodus 20:2: “This [deliverance out of Egypt] in the manner of Scripture and of Providence is the earnest and the guarantee of their deliverance from all other and greater kinds of bondage. The present is the type of a grander future. We must descend the stream of revelation to the New Testament before we fathom the depths of this greatest deliverance.”-JAMES G. MURPHY, Commentary on the Book of Exodus.
Any display of God’s mercy and deliverance to His children at any moment in earth’s history is a reason why those living at that time and those who read of the account in all subsequent ages should serve Him with their whole heart and obey His holy will.

Is Christ the end of Law – Part 4

This is taken from Answers to Objections by F. D Nichol.

Paul states that the “ministration of death, written and engraved in stones” was “done away.” Therefore the ten-commandment law, which was written on the tables of stone, has been done away. (See 2 Cor. 15-11)

Let us see what Paul really did say. The introduction to the passage before us finds Paul declaring to the Corinthian brethren: “You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: forasmuch as you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.” 2 Cor. 3:2, 3.

Here is the key to interpret the words that follow. His figure of speech is patently borrowed from the Scriptural contrast between the old and the new covenant, -Tables of stone- contrasted with “tables of the heart”, “ink” contrasted with “the Spirit of tile living God.” These Corinthians, he said, were “ministered by us.” By an easy transition Paul moves into a discussion of the two covenants by adding immediately that Christ “also hath made us able ministers of the new testament [covenant]; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life.” (The word ‘testament’ in this and almost all other instances in the New Testament does not have the meaning of a “will as made by a
testator in anticipation of death, but of covenant, and is so translated in the Revised Version.)

We might close the discussion right here, for our examination of the two covenants revealed clearly that the ratifying of the new covenant did not mean the abolishing of the, Ten Commandments. However, let us proceed.

“But if the ministration of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: how shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more does the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excels. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remains is glorious. Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: and not as Moses, which put a vale over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished.” Verses 7-13.

Here is a series of contrasts, intended not so much to belittle the old dispensation as to glorify  the new. It was ever Paul’s studied endeavor to prove that Christ and His ministry are the blazing glory beside which the spiritual glory of the former times seems pale. This argument by contrast particularly marks the book of Hebrews, which was written for the Jewish believers, who, until they accepted Christ, had thought that the glory of Sinai and the ministration of the divine law under the Jewish priests and rulers were the last word in heavenly glory. The contrasts that Paul seeks to make are essentially the same as the contrasts between the old and new covenants:

1. “The ministration of “death” versus ”the ministration of the spirit.”
2. “Ministration of condemnation” versus “ministration of righteousness.”
3. “Letter killes” versus -spirit gives life.”
4. “Was glorious- versus -exceed in glory.”
5. “Done away” versus “remains.”
Numbers one and two are simply variant expressions. The questions before its aie therefore:
1. What are these two ministrations?
2. What is meant by letter and spirit?
3. What is this relative “glory”?
4. What was “done away” and what “remains “?

The objector quickly answers: The “ministration of death” was that which was “written and  engraved in stones,” and is Plainly the Ten Commandments. But not so quickly. Is it correct to speak of a “ministration” and a “law” as synonymous? No. It is correct to speak of the “ministration” or, as we would say, the administering of a law. The administering of the law is the means by which it is put in operation, and is riot to be confused with the law itself. Therefore, “the ministration of death,” or “the ministration of condemnation,” refers to the ministration, or the administering, of the law that was “written and engraved in stones.”

By a simple figure of speech the law is called death and condemnation. On a certain occasion in Elisha’s day the sons of the prophets gathered with him around a “great pot” in which had been cooked certain “wild gourds.” Evidently the gourds were poisonous, for one of those eating cried out: “There is death in the pot.” (See 2 Kings 1: 38-40) He meant, of course, that there was something in the Pot that would cause death, and substituting cause for effect, he cried out as he died. Paul had earlier said to the Corinthians, “The sting of death is sin: and the strength of sin is the law.” 1 Cor. 15:56. That is, if it were not for the law of God, which condemns those who violate it, there would be no sin, and hence no death in penalty for sin, “for where no law is, there is no transgression.- Rom. 4:15. Thinking on this fact and the contrasting fact that ”the law is holy . . . and
just, and good,” caused Paul to inquire: ”Was then that which is good made death unto me?” Here he speaks of the law as “death.” Now, how does Paul say that we escape from this “ministration of death”,- this “ministration of condemnation”? By abolishing the law of God? Listen to his words:

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not  after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of’ the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God  sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Rom. 8: 1-4.

We escape from “condemnation” through Jesus Christ, who changes our hearts so that “the  righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us.” Paul describes this changed state as walking “after the Spirit,” and adds that “to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Verses 5, 6. Here is a state of “condemnation” and “death” changed to one of “no condemnation” but rather “life.” In other words, a ministration of condemnation and death exchanged for a ministration of the spirit and life. How evident that we are here discussing tile two covenants. And how evident also that Paul’s words in Romans 8 parallel his words in 2 Corinthians 3. That is the plain teaching of the Scripture.
The cold letter of the law as it appeared on the stone tables had no life-giving power. It could only point accusingly at every man, for all have sinned and come short of tile glory of God. An administration of the law based on its letter alone results only in death for violators. But an administration of it based on the forgiveness possible through the action of God’s Spirit on the heart results in life. The contrast between “letter” and “spirit” does not mean a contrast between an age of law and an age of freedom from all law. As we have already noted, when God’s Spirit is in control, the law’s requirements are carried out in our hearts.

What, now, of the “glory” mentioned by Paul? He plainly speaks of the relative glory of two ministrations. The justice and righteousness of God shone forth in awesome, even terrifying glory on Mount Sinai as He proclaimed His law. He stood there as a consuming fire. But how much greater the glory of God that bathed the earth with its life-giving rays where Christ came down to “save his people from their sins.” Matt. 1:21. Here was the glory of justice and mercy combined, for in dying for our sins our “transgression of the law” Christ revealed how God at one and the same time could “be just, and the justifier of hint which believes in Jesus.” Rom. 3:26. This brings us to the last question: What was “done away” and what “remains”? The question is really already answered. The glory attendant upon the giving of the law is so greatly excelled by the glory attendant upon the saving of men from its violation that Paul could appropriately speak of the first as -glorious” and the second as “the glory that excels.” But right here Paul weaves in an  incident in connection with the giving of the law at Sinai to illustrate a point that he wishes to make in the verses that immediately follow this disputed passage. When Moses came down from the mount with the tables of stone in his hands, ”the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.” So Moses “put a vale on his face- while he spoke to the Israelites. (See Ex. 34:29-35) Paul refers to this: “The children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away.” 2 Cor. 3:7. He refers to this again in verse 11, saying it was “done away,” and then again in verse 13 in these words: “And not as Moses, which put a vale over his face, that the children of Israel could riot steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished.” It was the glory of the former ministration, now ended, and not the law administered, that was “done away,” “abolished,” even, as by historical analogy, Paul reminds them that it was the glory on Moses’ face that was “done away.” The record declares that the veil was on Moses’ face, not on the tables of stone, that it was his face that shone and riot the tables of stone, and that it was the glory onhis face that faded, not the luster that ever surrounds the divinely written Ten Commandments.

Is Christ the end of Law – Part 3

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; Eph 2:15

Paul is not talking about Ten Commandments here because doing so will be contradicting his own statement in Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. The same Greek word καταργέω is translated as void in rom 3:31 and abolished in Eph 2:15. In rom 3:31 Paul writes that we don’t make the law void but we Establish it.

Also See Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.  1 cor 7 : 19. Paul makes a line of distinction between the law of Moses and Commandments of God here. He says keeping of the commandments of does matters.

In Rom 7: 22 He says that ” For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: “, verse 25 he say “So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God;” So Paul always served the Law of God.

But in Eph 2:15 He is speaking about the law of commandments contained in ordinances. The greek word used here as ordinances is δόγμα which means the ceremonies. Also see the word occurs only one more time in New testament. It is in Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; The ordinances here are the ceremonies (Drink offering, meat offering, Festival Sabbath)  which were type to the ministry of Christ see Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Is Christ the end of Law – Part 2

Another passage which is commonly misunderstood and sometimes wrongly translated ( as in Tamil Bible) is Rom 7.

Rom 7:4,6 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ;..But now we are delivered from the law,..

This is commonly used as a reason for teaching that we need not keep the Moral Law or Ten commandments. In Tamil Bible it is even translated as we are dead to the Law of God… and delivered from the Law of God.

But Paul is not talking about the Law of God in the Rom 7:1-6. He says we are delivered from the Law of sin and we are dead to the Law of sin.
For I delight in the law of Godafter the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to thelaw of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.Rom 7:22 – 25 Rom 8:1,2 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Is Christ the end of Law – Part 1

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. Romans 10:4

The translators of KJV were protestants who didn’t believe the difference between ceremonial Laws (which were shadow of Christ ministration) and the Moral Law (which is everlasting). So they translated the Greek word τέλος telos as  end in Rom 10:4 but the correct translation should be For Christ is the purpose or the focusof the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

See how the word telos is used in other verses

Now the endof the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: 1 Timothy 1:5

Receivingthe end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:9

..Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord.. James 5:11

just imagine if Christ is the end of Law as some people interpret and teach then I can commit adultery, fornication.

To be continued..
