Lesson 12. Daily was taken away

Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily (sacrifice) was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. Dan 8. 11

I have put the word sacrifice within brackets because the word sacrifice is not there in original hebrew text. It means the horn took away daily and not daily sacrifice.

From the beginning of Advent movement there are two views concerning the meaning of the word daily.

I m sharing the view which many pioneers including Uriah Smith had.

Then I saw in relation to the “daily” (Daniel 8:12) that the word “sacrifice” was supplied by man’s wisdom, and does not belong to the text, and that the Lord gave the correct view of it to those who gave the judgment hour cry. When union existed, before 1844, nearly all were united on the correct view of the “daily”; but in the confusion since 1844, other views have been embraced, and darkness and confusion have followed. Time has not been a test since 1844, and it will never again be a test. EW 74.

Ellen White is saying the word ‘sacrifice’ doesn’t belong to the text. She also says those who gave the judgment cry in 1844 had the correct view.

So what is the view of those who gave the judgement cry in 1844?
2 Thes 2. 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

Paul says someone is preventing Roman Bishop to take world power. This someone needs to be ‘taken away’.

Pioneers when the read this text understood that if Pope needs to get world power the roman emperor needs to be removed (taken away).

by him the daily (sacrifice) was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. Dan 8.11.

What happened in history is the roman emperor gave his Capital, Power and Army to Pope. Pope used the army to destroy pagan powers.

The hebrew word used for sanctuary here is used to refer both God’s sanctuary and also to refer to pagan temples. Use of word sanctuary here makes people think that Pope removed sanctuary but pope actually removed pagan powers using the roman army.

So what is daily. The hebrew word for daily here is ‘tamid’ which means perpetual or something happening again and again.

The pagan political powers of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome are succeeding each other. Finally the pagan political power was replaced by a religious power Papal Rome.

2 Thes 2.6,7 and Early Writings p74 are the key to understand this.
